Working on a project for a client to repair over 70 pieces of sheet music and newspaper clippings from the early 20th century. First step in the project is surface cleaning and vacuuming all the pages in preparation for mending.
It's a bright spot in the day when one of the pieces is one of my favorite songs, "Three O'Clock in the Morning". :-) I particularly enjoy Dexter Gordon's version from his "Complete Blue Note Sixties Sessions".

2024 is well underway, but a Happy Belated New Year from Melodious Bindery! :-) On this great Leap Day Melodious Bindery is delighted to share pics of my 2nd binding for the Leather Binding Fundamentals IV class I took last fall with Karen Hanmer Book Arts :-).
Besides working on my client's work, 2023 was a year of learning and furthering my training and skills in bookbinding. There is always more to learn and I always welcome opportunities to increase my knowledge and skills. One of the ways I have done that is by pushing myself to learn edge gilding. It's been challenging, but I gilded all 3 edges on one of my recent leather bindings. The book is "Modern Bookbindings: Their Design and Decoration" by Sarah Prideaux. This book has a rounded spine and doublures in the cover leather, silk endbands, and Renato Crepaldi marbled flyleaves. I still have titling and cover design work to do, but I hope you enjoy these gilded edges! ☺️

What an intense year it's been! I am delighted to share the results of a 2 and half yearlong project to repair this 3 volume set of family history books from 1903! Volumes 1 & 2 had to be completely resewn and the 800+ pages mended and reinforced. Volume 3 had its 300 pages mended as well. The frayed board edges were consolidated and repaired with toned Asian papers. New spine pieces and new book cloth corners were made. All 3 volumes were finished off with stamped title labels in imitation gold foil and blind-tooled lines on the spine and corners. I am very happy to have had the chance to preserve these important pieces of family history! ❤☺️
