Looking out from within a mega cave on Aruba with astounding petroglyphs, some never discovered before! This was the territory of the Giants about 5,000 years ago. The climb into the cave was too dangerous for my daughter who is standing to the left.

Arikok National Park warns Watersporters for the Portuguese Man of War in our Waters

Park Authority has seen some sightings of the Portuguese Man of War at Dos Playa and Boca Prins.

The Atlantic Portuguese man o' war (Physalia physalis), also known as the man-of-war or floating terror, is a marine hydrozoan of the family Physaliidae found in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its venomous long tentacles deliver a painful sting, which on extremely rare occasions has been fatal to humans. Despite its appearance, the Portuguese man o' war is not a true jellyfish but a siphonophore, which, unlike jellyfish, is not actually a single multicellular organism, but a colonial organism made up of specialized individual animals (of the same species) called zooids or polyps. These polyps are attached to one another and physiologically integrated, to the extent that they are unable to survive independently, and therefore have to work together and function like an individual animal.

“Dr Philip Riris, lead author of the study, said: 'The Rapids are an ethnic, linguistic and cultural convergence zone. The motifs documented here display similarities to several other rock art sites in the locality, as well as in Brazil, Colombia, and much further afield’.”

Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao, which are only 16 miles away from Venezuela, also have similar motifs seen here, including the cupules.

Researchers from University College London have mapped the petroglyphs in the Atures Rapids area of Amazonas state in Venezuela.
