Guests have the option of using the kitchen to prepare their own meals or opt to have someone prepare their meals (on prior notice). Either way, we ensure only the freshest vegetables and produce for their meals, some of which are taken from our own garden. The influence of Budhism can be seen in numerous places. People can visit the Tashijong and Bir monastary's and even do a short course in the Bir Deer Park center for Buddhist studies. Besides this, the famous Baijnath temple is located just 5 kms from Jyoti Niwas. There is a pottery center at Andretta run by the famous potter ..... You could go try your hand at pottery and pick up some attractive earthen wear. Mcloedganj (upper Dharamsala is located 50 kms from us. You can easily leave for a long day trip and visit His Holiness the Dalai Lama's temple there and eat some scrumptuous clay oven pizzas! The best experience we have on offer for our guests is a choice of camping spots and mountain trails. The Dhauladhar range flanks the valley and provide some breathtaking outdoor activities. One can choose between several treks, ranging from the easy to difficult. There are three passes that connect the Kangra valley to the adjoining Chamba Valley. We highly recommend you experience walking these ancient trails used by Gaddi sheperds (nomadic herders). There are a few ways you can get to Jyoti Niwas from Delhi
1. Fly to Dharamsala (Gaggal Airport)
Jyoti Niwas is located 40 km from the airport (A little above an hour).
2. Drive from Delhi
The drive takes approximately 9 hrs. Drive via Chandigarh - Ropar - Anangpur Saheb - Una - Chintpurni - Kangra - Palampur - Homestay (located in Al-hilal, 5 km before Baijnath)
3. Overnight Train to Pathankot - Drive to Jyoti Niwas
Take overnight train to Pathankot. Then drive approximately 85 km to home-stay. Should take you about 3 hrs.
