Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday which falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which is in late May or June on the Gregorian calendar.
There are many legends about the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival. The most popular one is in commemoration of Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan (340–278 BC) was a patriotic poet and exiled official during the Warring States Period of ancient China. He drowned himself in the Miluo River on the 5th day of the 5th Chinese lunar month, when his beloved Chu State fell to the State of Qin.
It is said that the local people, who admired him, raced out in their boats to save him, or at least retrieve his body, which is believed to be the origin of the dragon boat race. When his body could not be found, they dropped balls of sticky rice into the river so that the fish would eat them instead of Qu's body. This is traditionally held to be the origin of zongzi (dumpling) as the food during the festival.
Have blissful dragon boat (dumpling) festival..

Following century old colisuem announced closed down, another local famous century old kopitiam risking its future. Yut Kee @ dang wangi, famous for the swiss roll and hainanese chicken chop. Once i guided a bus load of tourists from swiss who need to boost up their daily "caffeine", without advance notice i sent them to taste the local coffee and kaya toast there.. they enjoyed it so much and indulge in the story of the shop founder and successor.. i remember it was public holiday, the old small shop located beside the dang wangi main road just fit to accommodate our sudden visit..
