It was so amazing to enjoy watching this little lady all by ourselves, not another vehicle for at least half an hour, something quite rare.

After being patient and giving her space, she came to a tree next to the road giving us the perfect view. We sat quietly as she checked us out, snarled at us and then tried to get comfortable.

Yesterday's safari was a day for seeing cats. We got to see this beauty again, posing so nicely on the perfect tree branch. After feasting on an impala the previous day, it was quite clear she was satisfied and sleepy 🤭

Another one of the awesome sightings from today's crazy 8 safari. Wild Dogs or African Painted Wolf!

Today's safari was a crazy day, for us a crazy 8 day! Not only did we see the 'Big 5', we also saw two packs of African Wild dog, spotted hyenas and black-backed jackals as well as many other animals that are often seen in the Kruger National Park.

This pretty leopard gave us a lovely show this morning and while watching her up in a tree the craziness started..... A spotted hyena appeared (to be expected) but then a pack of wild dogs also appeared from the long grass and passed by, leaving us quite astounded!

And the amazement didn't stop.....!
What a fantastic day it was 😁

This sighting was super special to see. The last time I saw a black rhino was about 2 years ago. That is what I told my guests when they asked if we will see them.
I overheard one say to the other "if she hasn't seen one for 2 years then how are you going to see one in 2 days?"....... Well!

That day was definitely our lucky day!

Leopard sightings don't happen as frequent as we would like, but when they do happen it's sometimes just a small window through the bushes or a brief glimpse as it crosses the road and disappears into the wilderness.

Today was wonderful, this little lady sat up in a leadwood tree for hours, giving us all a chance to capture the memory and in a tree clearly visible from the road.

Some of us Guides and Krugerholics are very enthusiastic about the different lion prides and coalitions of the Kruger Park. So much so that they're given names to help identify them.
Other factors like the area they're seen in and any unique features like scars for example, are also taken into account to help us to identify them and to get an idea of their territories and their movements within.

This is believed to be Baginzwe of the Hippo Pools coalition, one of two brothers seen on the S119 mating with the pride of that area, the Gardenia Hide pride. These two brothers are sons of the once-powerful Shishangeni coalition.

The African Bullfrog (Pyxicephalus edulis) or Edible Bullfrog.

latin: edulis = edible. Refers to the fact that some rural communities consume the species. (Frogs of Southern Africa app)

The Spotted hyena.....

So there's the 'Big 5', 'Small 5' and then there's the 'Ugly 5'. The spotted hyena forms part of the latter group but I think they're gorgeous!
