Today marks 25 years since the beginning of the Rwandan genocide. The 1994 tragedy was preventable and was ignored by western powers. Friends and neighbours turned onto each other with brutality that had no limit. The coward retreat of UN troups allowed the massacre to last 100 days and costed between 500,000 and 1,000,000 human lives. From the ashes, like a phoenix, Rwanda is now reborn and is a leader in tolerance and inclusion in East Africa. Let us all never forget this dark page of history and support Rwanda's future. Introducing the Common Eland (Taurotragus oryx). These antelopes are very rarely featured in nature documentaries, but are a common sight in the Masai Mara. Not only they are the second biggest antelope on the planet (after the giant eland found in other parts of Africa) but have an impressive leaping ability of over 2.5 meters from a standing start if startled. Now...that's an impressive antelope!
