Bonjour Hope you had a good week, not too fraught with last minute shopping and rushing about. Here in my corner of rural France there isn’t a great deal of razzmatazz, there aren’t hundreds of lights on houses or in the streets, in fact, you could drive through my village and you wouldn’t even know it was Christmas. Inside the houses though, my neighbours will be busy baking cakes and tarts. [ 218 more words ]

When it comes to renovating in France, if you’re not doing it yourself then you’ll need to source a builder or artisan. Unlike in some countries French builders and artisans tend to be very regimented about what they can/will and can’t/won’t do in my experience. In the UK it’s not unusual to get someone to renovate a kitchen perhaps painting and tiling amongst other things. [ 400 more words ]

France has 15 National holiday dates for 2017 plus one local holiday date. If you’re in France and it’s a holiday date, some shops will be closed, others will open but close early. Some markets will be closed , public offices and banks etc will not be open but most tourist buildings will not be shut. We’d advise that if you intend visiting somewhere on a national holiday, you should check to make sure that it’s going to be open when you want to go. [ 224 more words ]
