Guessing this was the original 4th (now 1st) green, short of the ‘canal’ and about 150 yards short of the existing green?

Think the houses will be Wellingtonia, Orwin, Hollybush and Heathdale (must predate Altanna being built).

END OF FEBRUARY 2017 UPDATE

The highly anticipated car park is close to being finished which will help the parking situation at the pier greatly. The drop off road which runs parallel to the terminal is completed and is currently being used for vehicles exiting the ferry. Work progresses on the pier with cranes moving resources onto the pier, the fire escape building has nearly all the brickwork installed. The raised passenger walkway is being constructed offsite by a specialist company and will be shipped over at a later date.

This week saw the first steel of the new terminal go up. The part you see here is the far east end of the terminal where the boarding gate will be, and the start of the passenger gangway.

White Easter on Arran!

VisitArran is delighted to announce that, despite the extreme weather conditions suffered last weekend, the beautiful Isle of Arran will be open for business for Easter 2013! SSE has confirmed that all areas of the island will have electricity supply restored by Thursday 28th March. This has only been achieved following the tremendous work carried out by contractors and volunteers to whom all Arran communities are extremely grateful.

Main roads are open although it is advised that anyone driving takes care and proceeds cautiously as engineers might still be working on the power supply system around the island, as a result public transport may be limited. VisitArran would recommend visitors to contact their accommodation providers to ensure that they are open as some businesses may have suffered snow damage. As a result a few of the attractions may not be able to open in time for Good Friday.

VisitArran would like to assure visitors that thanks to statutory and voluntary assistance, those most vulnerable residents will receive ongoing assistance if required. Yesterday the Scottish Government announced that support will also be available for Arran’s farming community.

Islanders have been overwhelmed with support and kind thoughts from the rest of the country and know that this will continue, as visitors come to spend their White Easter on Arran, enjoying stunning views, great food and drink and community spirit!

We will update as developments proceed and thank you all for your support at this difficult time.

Seventy-two hours now without any mains power. More mobile generators are being installed in villages, but any rural areas will continue to have no power at all.
Transport Minister Keith Brown is on the island and will be updating the Banner soon on the continuing power crisis.

This is why the road round the Southend has to be kept clear for emergency vehicles only. There is nowhere to pull in to pass if you meet on-coming traffic!

Heathdale History: Heathdale was bought by Duncan Cook (father of John, Neill and Malcolm) in 1946. Originally it was jointly owned as a holiday cottage with another family, but later Duncan bought them out to own it outright. Duncan and his wife Bertha and their extended family (especially Bertha's sisters Rhoda and Jean) and all their children and grand children enjoyed many family holidays over the years. Heathdale has remained in the Cook family ever since passing down through the generations. Now fourth generation Cooks enjoy their holidays at Heathdale.
This picture shows Duncan and Bertha with son John and his wife Elizabeth circa 1964 (not taken in Heathdale though but a little further East we think in India). We don't have a picture of Duncan at Heathdale so please post if you have one.
