Sometimes we don't have to go very far to explore. Sometimes, waking up in a different bed with a different view from the window is enough to satisfy our wanderlust.
There is plenty to explore in the UK. So for people looking for ideas of places to visit while we wait for the borders to re-open, how about... Somerset? Climb to Glastonbury, or explore Wells, its historical city centre and beautiful cathedral.
Bringing a little slice of Brittany wherever they go - flashback to a wet morning in July when inaugurated the first vessel in its EXPLORERS series, Le Laperouse, in Reykjavik, Iceland.
The ship set off to the traditional sound of the binious (small Breton bagpipes) and drums from the famous Bagad of Lann Bihoue, under the cheers of the locals. We count ourselves lucky to have been there too!

In Germany, Easter is celebrated by lighting up bonfires at sunset on Holy Saturday. Some commuties stuff huge bales of straw into a wooden wheel, set it on fire and roll it down a hill (known as the Osterrad). You'd better get out of the way fast... 🔥 🔥 🔥
On the other side of the ocean, in the Caribbean - more precisely in Bermuda - Good Friday is celebrated on the beach flying kites high in the sky. 🌞
The kites are supposed to symbolise the resurection of Jesus. But do we really need an excuse to fly kites on the beach?!
Let's head to Eastern Europe where one of the main Easter traditions is water fights! More precisely, men try to soak women with buckets of water... 💦🌊
The ancient tradition is linked to rites of cleansing, bringing youth and fertility to the drenched women. We think that we will give that one a miss - and try and stay as dry as the the Great British spring allows us. ☂️
Next in our round-up of weird Easter traditions: France. In France bells rather than bunnies bring treats and chocolate on easter day... 🔔
An old religious tradition dictates that church bells stop ringing around Easter as a mark of respect for Jesus' death. To explain their silence children were told the bells have flown to Rome to be blessed by the Pope. ⛪
On the morning of Easter Sunday, the bells then fly back to France carrying treats and chocolates which they drop into gardens for the children.
In a countdown to Easter, we are taking you round a world of weird and quirky Easter traditions.
Today we head to Valencia, in Spain, to celebrate Las Fallas 🎇. One of the best memories from my time living there! Originally stemming from an old carpenter's tradition of burning pieces of wood, old belongings and rags at the end of winter, celebrations now include, parades, bonfires, fireworks, street food and music everywhere.

#2. Bologna, Italy - the foodie capital of Italy 🤤. Parma ham, parmesan, tagliatelle al ragu, piadine, balsamic vinegar, truffles.. and the wines too! The old, narrow bustling streets, the markets, the culture and history - and of course the people. We can't wait to head back there for a weekend of pure indulgence.
All these talks about holiday - will we / 'won't we'... - have made us think about our bucket list. The destinations are different from our pre-Covid list. As the situation has evolved in the last 12 months, so have our priorities. So here are the places we are heading to, as soon as the borders re-open:
#1. Brittany, France - they say there is no place like home... it doesn't hurt that it is also the prettiest place!
Finally... after what seemed the longest winter on record, spring is here! Today is Spring Day and we're going to celebrate by drinking our morning cofee on the terrace ☕ ☀️ - we are definitely pretending we are in an Alpine meadow...
With spring around the corner, a plan to exit lockdown and a clear sight to an end of restrictions, hope in the travel and hospitality industry is soaring - and we are starting to get excited too with the many opportunities to finally turn virtual escapes into the real thing!
