Kolmanskop is an abandoned diamond mining town near Lüderitz, Namibia, founded in the early 1900s during the diamond rush. At its peak, it featured amenities like a school and hospital, but was abandoned in the 1950s as diamond resources dwindled. Nature reclaimed the town, with sand filling the buildings, creating a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere. Today, it’s a popular tourist attraction with guided tours that explore its history and showcase the striking contrast between the sand and man-made structures, making it a unique spot for photography and exploration.

Namibia has a small population of just over 3 million, but it’s home to a surprising number of cultures, with 13 official ethnic groups and 16 languages. Among them are the Himba, livestock-rearing people who thrive in the semi-desert conditions of Kaokoland in the northwest. The Himba live a nomadic lifestyle, maintaining a unique way of life that’s deeply connected to their land and traditions.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its impressive collection of over 2,500 rock engravings created by the San (Bushmen) between an estimated 1,000 and 10,000 years ago. Crafted with quartz tools, these petroglyphs include vivid hunting scenes and depictions of animals like antelopes, zebras, giraffes, and lions. Intriguingly, one engraving even shows a seal, despite the ocean being about 100 km away!

Protected as a national monument since 1952, Twyfelfontein can only be explored with a local guide to help preserve its ancient art.
