PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT GO ANY NEARER A SEAL THAN 10 METRES ON HORSEY BEACH. That is 30 feet in old language or the length of a bus. We are getting reports that this is happening on a dialy basis. Apart from the fact that someone. maybe a child could get seriously injured if they are crushed by a group of terrified seals trying to escape into the sea at once, it is also traumatic for the seals. Grey seals can weight between 200 and 350 kilos so this sort of accident is a distict possibility. Also there are smaller pregnant common seals on the beach as well and there they could abort or if they have given birth, abandon their pups leaving them to starve to death. This photo illustrate how close is too close. Most people respect the seals and stay back and enjoy these beautiful marine mammal who have to come ashore because they are air breathing mammals like us and need to rest.

NEW rope barriers are being installed on the dunes at Winterton to help preserve them from erosion caused by human beings as well as the sea.

THE number of grey seal pups born at the Horsey colony is already up on last year's figures. There are currently 706 on the beach, including 49 at Winterton. So far 713 have been born this season - 150 more than this time last November.

Winterton on Sea Lifeboat Restoration Group

When you're out and about in Winterton, don't forget we have charity fundraising buckets located in Fishermans Return, the Winterton Fish Bar, the Dunes Cafe and at Hermanus. Please consider dropping in some spare change next time you visit. It's surprising how much this can add up to over the course of a year and is a valuable source of extra funds for us. Thank you 😃

UPDATE: We have had the deposits looked at and they are peat deposits that have broken away and nothing to worry about. Thank you for sharing our post.

We have had reports of potential palm oil deposits washing up on Brancaster Beach. We are currently investigating but dog owners please be aware and do not allow your dog to pick up and eat anything off the beach. We will update later.
