Puerto Vallarta, known for its Mexican charm, was recently showcased in the bustling heart of New York City. More than 280,000 people passing through Times Square got a taste of what this vibrant destination has to offer.

Thanks to partnerships formed at the Gala Puerto Vallarta - Riviera Nayarit event, Puerto Vallarta was the guest of honor at Father Duffy Plaza in Times Square. This opportunity arose after discussions with the Mexican Consul in New York, Jorge Islas López, who is keen on boosting direct flights between Puerto Vallarta and JFK/Newark airports.

The buzz around Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the US made Puerto Vallarta's presence even more exciting. El próximo domingo 5 de mayo de 6:00 am a 1:00 pm se llevará a cabo la séptima edición del Torneo de Pesca de Orilla Surfcasting Vallarta, un certamen que nació de la inquietud de la misma comunidad pesquera de Puerto Vallarta de fomentar en los habitantes -principalmente en la juventud- el deporte de la pesca.

El torneo inició a nivel local y actualmente la convocatoria ya es nacional, atrayendo gente de toda la costa del Pacífico y también del Golfo de México, habiendo registrado participantes de La Paz, Oaxaca, Acapulco, Veracruz e incluso de Estados Unidos, España y Sudamérica.

El número de competidores también ha ido en aumento año con año, teniendo un récord de 352 participantes que en conjunto dejan una derrama económica promedio de millón y medio de pesos durante el evento.

El formato del torneo es “pesca y libera”, buscando fomentar en las nuevas generaciones el tomar la presa y devolverla al mar para evitar depredar cuando no es necesario. La bolsa de premios también creció este año: el primer lugar obtendrá un premio de $70,000 pesos, el segundo $20,000 pesos y el tercero $10,000 pesos.

Cualquier especie de pez que no esté en veda es válida para ganar el torneo. El certamen cuenta con el récord nacional del pez robalo más pesado capturado en torneos de orilla, con un ejemplar de 11.760 kg; otras especies que se suelen capturar desde la orilla en Puerto Vallarta son sierras, pargos, gallos, jureles y agujones. El área de pesca estará comprendida desde el inicio del malecón hasta la playa Los Mu***os.

Puerto Vallarta continúa promoción en Canadá
Del 22 al 25 de abril, el destino participó en Granite Travel Trade Expos, donde se entablaron encuentros y reuniones con tour operadores y agencias de viajes.
Con el fin de potencializar la conectividad desde Toronto al destino y promover la temporada de verano, el Fideicomiso de Turismo de Puerto Vallarta -acompañado por el grupo de hoteles Buenaventura- participó en Granite Travel Trade Expos, una serie de eventos en distintas poblaciones de la provincia de Ontario.

Se tuvo presencia en Windsor, Kitchener, Oshawa y Barrie, todos suburbios de la ciudad de Toronto. El objetivo de la promoción en estas zonas alrededor de la urbe es poder tener mayor cobertura de profesionales de viajes en esa región.

En relación a esto, Luis Villaseñor, director del Fideicomiso para la Promoción Turística de la ciudad, señaló: “es muy importante la presencia de Puerto Vallarta en estos eventos itinerantes en Canadá, ya que ahí es donde surgen las oportunidades para generar mayor demanda de nuestro segundo mercado más importante al destino”.

Con el fin de promover las rutas al destino con Flair Airlines para la próxima temporada de verano, el Fideicomiso de Turismo de Puerto Vallarta, de la mano de la Oficina de Visitantes y Convenciones de Guadalajara, realizó actividades de promoción y capacitación con asesores de viajes, medios de comunicación e influencers canadienses.

Entre las actividades de relacionamiento en conjunto con Flair Airlines, se sostuvieron encuentros con consorcios de agencias y asesores de viajes especializados en nichos para potencializar los segmentos de lujo, romance, golf, turismo de reuniones entre otros.

Adicionalmente, se realizó un seminario de capacitación para 80 agentes de viajes con el fin de que conocieran las bondades de Jalisco, las novedades de Puerto Vallarta, las operaciones aéreas de verano y la nueva ruta de Flair Airlines a Guadalajara a partir del 31 de mayo, lo que permitirá mayor movilidad por el Estado usando rutas alternas de entrada y de salida.

Esto fomentará los viajes de circuito por Jalisco, teniendo la posibilidad con este nuevo vuelo de combinar Guadalajara y Puerto Vallarta como destinos de llegada y partida para en un solo viaje visitar sus bellas playas, pueblos mágicos de montaña, la capital del Estado con toda su cultura que representa a México en el mundo y el pueblo de Tequila, para conocer de cerca los procesos de producción de la afamada bebida en su lugar de origen.

Los agentes de viajes mostraron mucho interés en conocer las experiencias que se pueden vivir en el Estado, con el fin de ofrecer nuevos productos a sus clientes. Los asesores de Virtuoso -red global líder de asesores de viajes de lujo, que trabajan con los mejores destinos y una cartera selecta de las mejores marcas de viajes a nivel mundial- estuvieron especialmente interesados en las opciones orientadas a su segmento para promover precisamente este tipo de productos y servicios.

Finalmente, se realizó un encuentro en las oficinas de Flair Airlines en Vancouver con el objetivo de abordar las estrategias de promoción, relacionamiento y publicidad de las cinco rutas que opera a Puerto Vallarta en temporada invernal y las dos de verano provenientes de Vancouver y Toronto con su banco de conexión.

Puerto Vallarta continúa sus acciones de promoción con el fin de seguir posicionándose como la ciudad de Latinoamérica mejor conectada con Canadá y particularmente con la provincia de Columbia Británica, donde se encuentran 7 de las 16 ciudades con las que se tiene conexión aérea en el país del Maple.

En materia de turismo, Canadá es el segundo mercado más importante para México. Tan solo en el primer bimestre del año llegaron 167,273 canadienses a Puerto Vallarta, siendo el segundo destino que ingresa mayor número de visitantes canadienses al país.

A partir de octubre de este año y hasta abril de 2025, Puerto Vallarta contará con un nuevo vuelo directo desde la capital de la República Checa. Todos los martes llegará un chárter en la ruta Praga - Puerto Vallarta, operado por la empresa DER Touristik.

La compañía alemana informó que el objetivo es atender clientes provenientes de las tres principales ciudades de República Checa: Praga, Brno y Ostrava; asimismo, se espera atraer pasajeros de países vecinos como Alemania, Polonia, Eslovaquia y Austria.

En convenio con la tour operadora trabajarán 13 hoteles de Puerto Vallarta y uno de Nayarit: Vamar, The Westin Resort & Spa, Sheraton Buganvilias Resort & Convention Center, Buenaventura, Hacienda Buenaventura, Krystal Puerto Vallarta, Sunscape, Dreams y Secrets Puerto Vallarta, Plaza Pelícanos, Canto del Sol, Delfín, Crown Paradise y Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta.

“El nuevo vuelo que estará llegando a Puerto Vallarta desde Praga tiene una capacidad para 432 pasajeros, por lo que a lo largo de seis meses que estará operando este chárter esperamos a más de 10 mil turistas europeos, no sólo de República Checa, también de Alemania, Austria, Polonia, entre otros países. Sin duda, bajo este nuevo esquema en alianza con el sector hotelero, se abre un nuevo mercado para Puerto Vallarta, además de potenciales visitantes para Tequila y Guadalajara”, indicó Vanessa Pérez Lamas, Secretaria de Turismo de Jalisco.

En su quinta edición anual, la competencia presenta un circuito totalmente renovado, con salida y meta desde Puerto Mágico, y con el compromiso de ser un maratón icónico en México.

El Fideicomiso de Turismo de Puerto Vallarta, a través de su nueva Dirección de Turismo de Reuniones -encabezada por la Lic. Laura Suárez-, busca promover con mayor intensidad la infraestructura y bondades que ofrece este destino para la realización de exposiciones, congresos, ferias y todo tipo de eventos y convenciones.

Laura Suárez es experta en el segmento; su experiencia incluye labores en hotelería, DMC, Centro de Convenciones y destino. Bajo su dirección, el Fideicomiso suma más tácticas al quehacer de promoción para que Puerto Vallarta siga siendo el destino líder en ocupación y llegada de visitantes.

Entre las acciones implementadas recientemente, del 9 al 11 de abril se realizó la primera ronda de visitas de negocios “sales calls” de este 2024 como parte de una serie de eventos de promoción dedicados a este segmento.

Durante la jornada de trabajo en Ciudad de México, se concretaron 40 citas de negocios con meeting planners de la capital del país, en las que se destacaron las novedades en el destino, remodelaciones en hoteles, apoyos para los congresos, convenciones y eventos que se realicen en Puerto Vallarta.

También se destacó la conectividad con 52 destinos nacionales e internacionales a través de 24 aerolíneas que transportan más de 6.2 millones de pasajeros al año, la ampliación del Aeropuerto Intencionalidad de Puerto Vallarta añadiendo una moderna terminal aérea que estará lista para fines de 2024 y la nueva autopista Guadalajara - Puerto Vallarta con la que se reduce el tiempo de traslado a 2.5 horas.

Tras las presentaciones, se recibió muy buena retroalimentación por parte de las agencias, las cuales manifestaron que sí existe interés por realizar eventos en Puerto Vallarta e incluso aprovecharán la información recibida para postular el destino en eventos que ya se tienen en puerta.

En el encuentro participaron activamente miembros del clúster de turismo de reuniones de Puerto Vallarta, en esta ocasión integrado por los hoteles Crown Paradise Club, Golden Crown Paradise, Sheraton Buganvilias Resort & Convention Center, Vamar, Barceló, Fiesta Americana, Friendly Fun, Mío, Marriott, The Westin Resort & Spa y Hilton; la DMC IVI, Vallarta Adventures y el Centro Internacional de Convenciones.

“Puerto Vallarta tiene un gran potencial, toda vez que cuenta con una amplia oferta de prestadores de servicios especializados que incluyen hoteles, DMCs, empresas de tours, restaurantes, Centro Internacional de Convenciones y proveedores diversos, que de la mano de una excelente conectividad, ubicación geográfica, seguridad y amplia oferta de experiencias permite realizar eventos exitosos” señaló Luis Villaseñor, director del Fideicomiso de Turismo de la ciudad.

Puerto Vallarta, through the Tourism Promotion Trust, had a significant presence at the 2024 Mexico Tourism Tianguis. This business forum, based on pre-established appointments between exhibitors and potential buyers, served the destination to develop strategies and alliances to continue making solid progress for the remainder of the year.

Throughout the event, 120 working meetings were held with wholesale partners, as well as meetings with specialized media in both meetings and leisure tourism from twelve countries, including the United States, Canada, England, Spain, Colombia, and Argentina.

The main objective was to follow up on the agreements reached at the Gala Puerto Vallarta - Riviera Nayarit and establish tactics once the results of the first four months of the year had been reviewed. This will enable the implementation of specific actions prior to the summer season so that Puerto Vallarta can achieve optimal occupancy above 65%.

Following the Easter and Passover holiday period, the green pearl of the Mexican Pacific continues to see a growth trend in its hotel occupancy in 2024. Preliminary results show an average overall occupancy of 85% throughout these fifteen days.

This translates to more than 20,000 hotel rooms occupied almost every day from March 24th to April 6th, with a peak of 24,433 rooms occupied on the night of Friday, March 29th out of the total inventory of 26,056 hotel rooms in Puerto Vallarta.

Another noteworthy point is that there was an average of almost 50,000 tourists accommodated per night, surpassing 60,000 tourists on some nights and consistently remaining above 40,000 throughout the two weeks.

ARRIVAL OF INTERNATIONAL PASSENGERS CONTINUES TO RISE

Despite the belief that the arrival of Easter results in a decrease in foreign tourism, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport ranked as the third airport nationally in terms of international passenger arrivals during the month of March, only behind Cancun and Mexico City.
In March 2023, there were 486,100 arrivals of international passengers, and this year during the same month, it reached 551,500, which is a 13.45% increase compared to the previous year. For the third consecutive month, Puerto Vallarta surpassed Los Cabos airport in this regard despite the latter's proximity to the United States.
