Welcome to the American Express (AMEX) Philadelphia (PHL) Centurion Lounge tour during COVID-19! Join Chris and Alex on a full walkthrough and review of the Philly Centurion airport lounge which includes the new COVID safety protocol and restrictions. The Amex PHL Centurion Lounge is located in Terminal A near Gate A14. Luckily, during our afternoon at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) the airport lounge was very empty. This gave us the opportunity to do a proper walkthrough, review and tour of all of the amenities and services still available despite the COVID pandemic. The staff was more than friendly, and appeared overjoyed to have visitors again. The American Express Philly Centurion Lounge is known for its award winning food, curated by James Beard award winning chef, Michael Solomonov. The food is now provided to guests in a cafeteria type style which keeps the buffet safer from COVID risk. We were also provided green immunity shot drinks which certainly helped us feel healthy while traveling! We finished off our lunch with some of our favorite Giuliana prosecco, which is our go-to alcoholic beverage of choice when at the PHL Centurion Lounge. Fortunately, all of these amenities are complimentary upon access thanks to our American Express Platinum Card! Pop a bottle of champagne, sit back and enjoy the Philadelphia American Express Centurion Lounge tour! What do you think about the new negative COVID-19 test requirements for entering the United States? 🌎 🇺🇸

⬇️ Save this post for future reference for 2021 travel planning! ⬇️

Starting January 26, 2021, you’ll now need to get a negative COVID-19 test or proof of having recovered from COVID-19 prior to arriving in the United States.

This new requirement applies to everyone, including US citizens. Here are the details:

All air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country must have a negative COVID-19 test no more than 3 days before their flight departs or have documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 prior to boarding the US bound flight.

Fortunately, many resorts are starting to provide on-site COVID-19 testing, which certainly helps! 🏨

This adds the risk of becoming stuck in another country if you end up with an unexpected positive test result. You’ll need to make sure you can cover any additional out of pocket expenses for an extended hotel quarantine until you’ve recovered. 💰

Typically, we leverage the travel insurance policies that are built into The Platinum Card from American Express or the Chase Sapphire Reserve 💳, which saves us thousands per year in insurance coverage expenses. Since it’s not clear whether a trip interruption due to a positive COVID-19 test result would be covered, we’re researching additional travel insurance for international trips.

What have we found so far? Despite reading numerous articles, it’s still pretty unclear 🤷‍♂️. Travel insurance blogs even have links to travel insurance brokers that let you “filter by COVID-19 coverage”. When you look closer, they don’t actually specifically cover this situation but rather it’s “technically not excluded”. We’re not sure about you, but if you’re planning a $10-30K dream trip, you certainly don’t want to put your peace of mind into a fine print technicality.

Fortunately, we found a few travel insurance providers that specifically cover an unexpected extended stay due to a positive COVID-19 result. Do you want us to cover this on our website?

Want to sip complimentary champagne in lay flats on your domestic flights? Here’s how we hacked it!

We booked an economy ticket from SFO-LAX-MIA so we could fly on AA’s 777-300ER. With our AAdvantage status, we were able to select Premium Economy seats that are being sold as Main Cabin Extra seats at the time of booking. Then, a few days before our flight, our upgrades were confirmed! ✨🍾

For both Gold and Platinum AAdvantage elites, this will run you 5x “500-mile” upgrade points. These points are earned for free every 10k miles you fly, and can also be purchased for $40/upgrade point. This is a great way to take advantage of your Amex Gold or Platinum Card airline fee credits!

If you’re a Platinum Pro or Executive Platinum AAdvantage member, these domestic upgrades are 100% complimentary and can clear 3-4 days before your flight ✈️

So what is this upgrade worth? Typically these seats go for $700-$1,200+ each way, whereas we’ve been scoring economy tickets for $47 to $97 each way. That puts an approximate value of $650 to $1,100 on this single upgrade alone.

Swipe right ➡️ to explore the Chairman Suite at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, CA! 🌉

Built in 1904, this is one of the most historic hotels in San Francisco. The Chairman Suite is a 2,400 sqft room that is configurable from 2 to 5 bedrooms. The first level features a beautiful foyer as you enter.

To the left of the entrance, you’ll find a full dining room with a kitchenette that offers full-sized Viking appliances. Adjacent to the dining room is a guest bathroom. Each bedroom features its own private bathroom.

On the right side of the foyer is an expansive living room with plenty of seating and a view of the iconic Union Square in San Francisco.

Up the stairs you’ll find three bedrooms. Two of these had king sized beds and one had two double beds during our stay.

Overall, this suite at the Westin St. Francis felt like a room at a Ritz-Carlton hotel room, with the historic details still preserved while being beautifully updated and modern at the same time. || @ The Westin St. Francis San Francisco on Union Square

Swimming in a winter wonderland! Now these are the epic mountain views that we’re looking forward to in 2021! ❄️🏔

This is the Cambrian Adelboden, located in Adelboden, Switzerland. We split our 10 day Swiss Alps snowboard trip (pre-pandemic) between the and our favorite W Hotel (). As a Platinum Elite member, we received a complimentary upgraded room and breakfast for two each and every morning. It’s absolutely delightful to wake up, enjoy fresh espresso, a full breakfast, and a steamy morning swim before hitting the wintery slopes 🏂 ❄️

Throwing it back to October 2019 when we visited the American Express Centurion Lounge in Houston, Texas!

Come with us as we take you on a full tour and provide you with an in-depth review of the American Express (AMEX) Centurion Lounge located in Houston Intercontinental Airport. Located in Terminal D, near gate D6, The IAH lounge is a little more hidden and less crowded than other locations we’ve visited. Fortunately, we were able to find the secluded location and enjoy the lounge without much overcrowding, during our afternoon visit. The staff was by far the friendliest we’ve ever experienced, with the highlight being the incredible bartender, Charles! Charles anticipated our desires and kept our Prosecco glasses full throughout our visit.

During this tour and review we walk you through each amenity that this exclusive and comfortable Houston Intercontinental airport lounge has to offer. While the cookie assortment was a miss this time, the delicious hot lunch food, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic beverages certainly made up for it. Fortunately, all of these amenities are complimentary upon access thanks to our American Express Platinum Card perks! We enjoyed some come free Italian Prosecco while we explain how you can travel hack your way out of the bustling terminal gate boarding area and relax with some free food and drinks!

Today, British Airways said farewell to their 747-400s. Swipe right ➡️ to experience the Upper Deck on the 747 ✈️

The 747 is an iconic aircraft, that ushered in the jet setting era like no other airplane. Without its debut in the 1970s, travel would likely be very different today.

Being a mix of an and a history nerd myself, it was always a goal of mine to fly on the upper deck of a Boeing 747. I’m very grateful that I was able to experience it in 2019 from LHR to SFO, and I must say, it’s still the best flight experience that I’ve every had.

There’s something truly special about being on the upper deck of an aircraft, from towering above the runways to being farther away from the engines which creates a quieter experience. Unlike the A380, the upper deck of a 747 offers a much more private, almost private jet like experience, even with the short comings of British Airway’s Club World seats. The crew was incredibly attentive, the food was delicious, champagne glass was always full, and after I landed I immediately started looking for a trip to fly on the 747 upper deck again. Unfortunately that’s not in the cards, but this flight is a memory that I’ll always cherish.

Flagship Lounge Access: Normally, there are a couple of limited “premium routes” where Flagship Business and Flagship First class allow you access to the Flagship Lounges in MIA and LAX, and Flagship Dining when flying in First Class. However, due to COVID, all of the Flagship Lounges are currently closed

Lie Flat Seats: One of the main reasons to try to fly on wide-body aircraft domestically is the lie flat seats. American’s Flagship Business class offers a competitive product when compared to Delta OneSuites and United’s Polaris. Typically, these aircraft are only flown internationally and occasionally on premium routes, such as this one. Rows 3 and 4 on the 777-300ER are considered to be in the business class “mini cabin”. Since there are only 8 seats in here, the service is phenomenal and even better than in the main business class cabin.

Food & Drinks: Due to COVID, the meals are only served on one tray to reduce the number of interactions with the crew. American continues to offer a full drink service, including champagne! Pre-departure beverages have been suspended for now, but we made up for it once we were in the air ✈️

Booking Strategy: These seats typically go for $400 to $1200 one-way but can be found for 20K AA miles. That’s a redemption range of 2.0 to 6.0 CPM! If you have a lot of AA miles and no plans for international travel, this could be a solid redemption. On the other hand, if you’re taking advantage of the lowered elite qualification requirements, this is an excellent way to qualify for elite status, since you’ll earn 2x EQMs (Elite Qualifying Miles).

Check out this incredible Wow Suite at the ! We were absolutely blown away by this luxurious room!

At 1,237 sqft, it’s a full 1 bedroom, 1.5 bath that has 2x living room areas, a dining room, and even a wet bar! The main bathroom has a free standing tub, dual vanities, and a full shower with a high shower head. Facing west towards the Pacific Ocean, Room 1115 is the perfect spot to enjoy some takeaway food and watch the sunset over Los Angeles!

Welcome to the ! This W Hotel has officially reopened and we couldn’t be more excited!

Earlier this month we eagerly checked the Marriott Bonvoy app to make sure they were taking reservations, and then on August 14th I called and got the great news that they had reopened! So we immediately made plans to pop down to LA for a belated anniversary celebration before we head Miami!

quick room tour of our "Two Bed Terrace Room" with "Garden Views" at the ! Due to COVID we strategically selected the Terrace Room so we could have an outdoor space! The Terrace was the perfect place to relax, get some sun, eat take out, and was larg enough to even get a work out in! Our pupper Oliver really enjoyed the space too. Highly recommend a Terrace for a social distancing hotel stay! 🏩

For us, vacation starts at the airport lounge and continues on through out the trip. Especially when you get to experience a first or business class lay flat with mood lighting like this! 🚨

Felt so good to fly again this weekend! Enjoying some bubbly on my way to back from visiting Chris on the SFO -> MIA 9am. Thank you to for all the social distancing and face covering protocol, as well as the amazing service from all the flight attendants. The First Class attendant went out of her way to find me a sweet treat since there was nothing sweet in the basket she first brought around! ✈️ ||
