Cape York trip
Day 13
Thursday 3rd July

After 8 sleeps we left Alau Beach campground happy that we had seen all we needed for this trip north of the Jardine river.

Once we got to the ferry I jumped out and headed solo across the river so that we could get some GoPro footage of the Bushie crossing.

From there we headed about 15kms south and dropped the van so that we could head into the northern part of the OTT ( old telegraph track) and have a geezer at Nolan’s Brook- another bucket list tick for us.

From there we picked up and then again dropped the van to head into Fruit Bat, Twin and Elliot Falls. Bloody awesome!

And then around 4.30 we arrived once again at Bramwell Junction Roadhouse ready for an overnighter tomorrow night on the southern part of the tele track - back to the little tent for a nights camping 😬

Bloody get out there and DO IT NOW!!

Cape York trip
Day 12
Wednesday 2nd July

Thursday Island! Wow 🤩

Absolutely amazing day spent accessing the island via ferry and taking the one hour tour around the 5km square island.

The history we were never taught in school about the contribution of the people in these remote northern parts.

And we had a cheeky beer or two at the Torres Island Pub which just so happens to be the most northern pub in Australia 🇦🇺
And don’t mind the bloody magnificent seafood platter 😋

We never planned to spend so many nights here at Alau Beach but we just didn’t know how much there was to actually see and do north of the Jardine Ferry.

Tomorrow we cross south again and do some of the Old Telegraph Track, and explore some of the waterfalls.

Cape York trip
Day 11:
Tuesday 1st July

We decided to head off early to do the Five Beaches drive this morning as skies have been grey and we knew we would probably need some gennie power in the arvo.

We drove a part of the same route we took out to the Tip before turning off towards Somerset.
Wow! They had had a fair bit of rain out there so we had some big muddy puddles, hence the Ute now looks “Cape-ified” 😜

Normally we are told this 5 beaches trip is stunning but in the grey drizzly light, and coming off a king high tide it probably wasn’t showing us its best side.

I was so saddened by the amount of rubbish on the beaches- I’m assuming washing in from Indonesia.

The 4wd ing was rated as medium but The Beast that is our 79 series did it easily.

And then it was back to camp for some “housework” and some chill time.

Tomorrow we head to Thursday Island.

Cape York
Day 10
Monday 30th June

Well after selling a kidney for an express post fuel filter on day 3, we finally tracked it down today. It was express flight to Cairns but then took a slow barge to Bamaga 😂

Apart from that, the journey to find our package took us out to the airport, past the relics of a WW2 DC3 crash and back out to the wharf.

Davo did a bit of a fish this morning with high tide and perhaps again tomorrow .

Oh, and last nights sunset after I had already posted.

Cape York trip
Day 9
Sunday 29th June

Today is Davo’s birthday and after years of dreaming we finally made it to the Tip!

7am ish start with about an hour to drive there.
The carpark has no signage and I had read you can travel the beach or the rocks.

We started the beach way but no one else was around and I got the jitters thinking of 🐊 in the marshy bits 😬

So we headed around and scampered over the rocks- not an easy feet recovering from a bad ankle sprain. Davo wore his thongs 😜 - how Aussie is that?

Was a wonderful experience and a huge tick ✅ off the bucket list!

Cape York
Day 8
Saturday 28th June

Enjoying these late starts to the day! No crocs with coffee today

We headed out to Mutee Head and the mouth of the Jardine River.

Met some unfortunates who found some soft sand on the beach and helped to drag them up off the soft s**t and get them out.

Headed to some ww2 remnants - would have been hard yakka here back in the day!

Was looking forward to a sunset but was not to be tonight.

Now we are just kicking back on the eve of the birthday boys day heading to the Tip!.

Cape York
Day 7 continued:

After our snappy 🐊 morning coffee, we had a cruisey morning, set up the bbq for a brunch time fry up 🥓 🥩 🍳

After several days off grid with very little sunshine, it was time to rig up the generator and charge up the batteries.

Around 3pm, we headed out to Punsand Bay again ready for a 5pm pizza and a few bevvies with some peeps we met on the road. Waited nearly an hour, head back to check the progress and turns out they had lost our order! Fuming and with no food we hastened back to camp and instead had t-bone and fried eggs 😬 😂 - still no famous Pizza for us!!!

One day 💭 🤞

Cape York trip-
Day 6
Thursday 26th June

So a very wet and soggy night last night- it absolutely bucketed down! Solar got down to 54% by morning.

Managed to plug in to the ablutions block and got it back up to 80% before moving to another unpowered site but beachfront this time.

Took a drive to get our bearings later in the day- Seisa wharf, Loyalty beach, Punsand Bay and the Croc Tent getting our merch ready before the photo op on Sunday!

Day 5
Wednesday 25th June

Cruisey drive from Bramwell Junction Roadhouse to Alau Beach.

Fun times crossing the Jardine Ferry- got footage inside the car on the trip across so will paedestrian across and catch us travelling back across.

The weather is absolute s**te unfortunately- unseasonal rain but at least it’s not cold.

No plans for tomorrow as yet but stay tuned!

Day 4
Tuesday 24th June:

We left Musgrave around 7.30 after cooking brekkie and waking the neighbours up with the smoke alarm 😬

Cruisey day meeting up with some other Bushtracker owners from Geraldton in WA.

After being together for 27 years and talking about this trip since the start it’s amazing to finally be travelling these roads

Few dipperty-doo dips in the road, lots of dirt and a few laughs.

Pulled up early today for the night at the start of the Telly Track- not that we will be taking that 😜

Cape York trip-
Tuesday 23rd June
Day 3:

So we got to Toyota in Atherton on opening and picked up one type of fuel filter. Headed to Mareeba for the other but no luck. We have managed to order one from Brisbane to be shipped up to Banaga Post Office for the cost of a kidney but peace of mind knowing we have if needed.

Today we turned onto the Peninsula Development Road (PDR) and hit some dirt and let some air out of the tyres!

We have made it to Musgrave Roadhouse for the night after a stop start kind of day. After rain and cold for 2 days it’s back to a balmy 29 degrees.

A few pics from the days adventures.
