Previously the house was rented out commercially for holidays. Families and friends of all ages enjoy spending day after day in the wonderful private, heated and enclosed swimming pool, terraced area, gardens and op

Sometimes I wonder if being a holiday property owner is just too much hassle, but then we receive an email like this and it makes it all worthwhile:
Hi Jo and Rich

We are having such a lovely time at your gorgeous house!

A very lazy day we have had, checking out Limogne market [ a great tip, thanks] followed by doing nothing other than eating, drinking and dipping into the fantastic pool. Bliss!

I can see why you love it here, its so peaceful, french and very comfortable.

You have gone to so much trouble making sure that guests are informed and welcomed. I wish it had been available when our girls were younger...perfect for families. We really appreciated the food, wine and beer last night. T drank most of the wine and was most inefficient about unpacking!

The house is really special isnt it? I love the higgledy piggledy layout, the fires and the kitchen. You are very lucky creatures...but can see youve put a lot of hard work into making it work.

Thanks very much..we shall savour our week here. We may venture out in a few days or so....

Have just discovered some very useful info if you are travelling abroad with a baby or toddler. If travelling abroad from Gatwick order nappies, formula etc from boots online and you can choose click and collect for Gatwick Arrivals. They'll then call you and ask if you want it taken through to airside. Means it doesn't count towards your luggage allowance!
Someone posted this on the Cuddledry page - worth "liking" them for tips like this.

Wild Swimming France: Discover the Most Beautiful Rivers, Lakes and Waterfalls of France

This looks like a great book, just pointed out to me by a friend. We are half way between the Lot, Cele and Aveyron rivers (half an hour drive to each) which run through fantastic gorges and are great for canoeing. Our canoe trips always take all day as we keep stopping to jump in the river and float downstream, or jump off the high rocks or have a picnic and a doze in the sun. Just have to keep your eyes peeled for the river snakes - but they are usually swimming very fast in the other direction!

Yesterday's break for the workers....and a few of the neighbours. You've gotta love a French gateau, or three.

Our Story

Cahors Country House is a pretty and characterful 19th Century Quercy styled house, clad in Virginia Creeper and nestled in a tranquil and rural location in an unspoilt part of France. The nearest village is Lalbenque. Families and friends of all ages enjoy spending day after day in the wonderful private, heated (when the pool heater works) and enclosed swimming pool, terraced area, gardens and wildflower meadow; perfect for burning off steam and exploring! There are quiet corners for relaxation, and a well equipped children's play area too. The baby equipment is bountiful and as well as toys, there is even a dressing up box for hours of 'make believe' fun. We fell in love and bought the house in December 2006 from John and Gwan who stayed nearby and then became very dear friends. We had a great introduction to the neighbours, some of whom have become good friends and spent time with us in the UK. Initially we rented the house out commercially but we stopped doing this a number of years ago and now enjoy the fact that family and friends can make use of it when we are not there. We have even managed to persuade our good friends, Bob and Hilary to buy the house next door.....well they needed something to keep them busy! Our aim is, Brexit permitting, to move out and make this our permanent residence within a couple of years but in the meantime if you think you would like to stay here do let us know. Of course all friends and family are welcome when we move there too ;)
