REST IN PEACE GIGGLES (MARIA RESPETO)
In about 96, I was the Head of A&R for a dance music label called MicMac Records.
I was hired to handle the European and International dance market by giving much needed exposure to International dance music artists in the USA, as well as act as Head of A&R to help discover and cultivate burgeoning Freestyle and dance artists in the US.
I was surprised that one of the biggest Freestyle record labels on the planet wanted me to head up such a prestigious and coveted position, especially since my Spanish was terrible and my knowledge and experience of Freestyle was extremely limited.
I was not surprised when my first job was to create yet another Freestyle compilation of the label, instead of doing what I was actually hired to do.
At the time, I only knew the top Freestyle artists and Giggles was one of them.
I decided to put together like a Greatest Hits of my favorite Freestyle artists and of course for political reasons, a few artists made it to the compilation that I did not intend to be on it.
However, I was a big fan of Giggles, especially my favorite "What Comes Around Goes Around" so I put it on my compilation "Freestyles Greatest Divas VOL 3" along with some other heavy hitters like Lisette Melendez and Debby Deb.
It was such an honor to have Giggles on my compilation.
I just heard today of Giggles (Maria's) untimely passing.
My heart and my deepest condolences goes out to her family, friends and fans.
Her brilliance will be missed.
Rest in peace in that great big dance club in the sky!

I think it was called a coffin?
Very simple 2 turntables ,mixing board, mic and speakers/monitors. I used to play parties for confirmations, graduations, etc..no one wanted my "weird gay music" so I had to get my records from the public library..
Not a good idea folks, it was all vinyl back then and well the records were scratched to hell, so ummm.. let's just say I wasn't winning DJ of the year, but people seemed happy and never asked for their money back, so a good time was had by all.. lol
