Crystal Cancels Antigua/St. Maarten Cruises on Symphony
Crystal Cruises canceled voyages on the Crystal Symphony from St. Maarten and Antigua “due to ongoing uncertainty regarding ports of call and availability of adequate airlift,” the company said in a statement on its website. The cruises were to operate starting Aug. 2 through December.

“However, the recent positive developments of ships sailing from U.S. ports have prompted U.S. travelers to show an increased preference for more direct access to luxury cruise options, and we do plan to announce a new deployment for Crystal Symphony close to home later this week,” the June 29 statement said. “We will keep you updated with details when they are finalized.”

Arvia to sail maiden season in Caribbean, St Maarten On Itinerary Mar 25th 2021,
P&O Cruises will deploy new mega ship Arvia in the Caribbean for its maiden season.
The sister vessel to soon-to-be launched Iona is due to be launched in December 2022.
The 5,200-passenger Arvia will run a season of fly-cruise holidays from the home port of Barbados and Antigua from January to March 2023.
The Caribbean itineraries include La Romana in the Dominican Republic – a maiden port of call for the line – Curacao, Martinique, St Kitts, St Lucia and St Maarten.

Arvia’s seven and 14-night itineraries also all include an overnight call in Barbados.

Twenty two-night repositioning cruises departing from or returning to Southampton with UK flights are also available.

P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: “Arvia holidays, alongside the rest of our winter 2022 season, will be on sale very shortly.

“We cannot wait to bring our newest ship to our glorious home port of Barbados and also to Antigua, which will be a first-time turnaround port for P&O Cruises.”

He added: “The Caribbean is the optimal maiden season destination for Arvia; a ship where every facet, including unique retractable roof SkyDome and Altitude Skywalk high ropes, is designed to provide exceptional views of the ocean, seashore and surrounding destinations.

“From the very initial concept Arvia has been created to be the epitome of a sunshine resort, developed to be an ideal way to enjoy the Caribbean’s turquoise waters and white sandy beaches like never before.” https://travelweekly.co.uk/news/tourism/arvia-to-sail-maiden-season-in-caribbean

2 Royal Caribbean lines to resume Caribbean cruises in June
3/19/21 3:21 PM
MIAMI — Two Royal Caribbean cruises will resume in June, ending a yearlong hiatus, but passengers 18 and older must test negative for COVID-19 before getting on a ship.

The company’s Celebrity Cruises subsidiary said Friday that its Celebrity Millennium ship will relaunch on June 5 from St. Maarten. One itinerary will stop in Aruba, Curacao and Barbados, and another will stop in Tortola, St. Lucia and Barbados.

Celebrity Cruises CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said returning to the Caribbean “marks the measured beginning of the end of what has been a uniquely challenging time for everyone.”

Royal Caribbean Group’s namesake line will start a week later with a voyage leaving from Nassau, the Bahamas on the Adventure of the Seas.

In both cases, passengers 18 and older will be required to test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of boarding the ship.

With the Caribbean such a popular destination, “It’s not entirely surprising to see both Celebrity and Royal Caribbean finding a way to return to the region,” said Colleen McDaniel, editor or Cruise Critic, a website that reviews cruises. “But it is massive news for the cruise industry, and for the Caribbean itself.”

In the Dutch Caribbean country of St. Maarten, tourism accounts for nearly 80% of all jobs, and nearly 80% of tourists arrive on cruise ships.

Shares of Miami-based Royal Caribbean rose more than 2% Friday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has held up cruise ship operations in U.S. waters since March 2020, although it has laid out guidelines for cruises to resume with conditional sailing certificates.

The Caribbean is a popular destination for American customers. So is Alaska, but the Canadian government has banned cruise ships carrying more than 100 passengers through February 2022, which will stop many ships from visiting Alaska this summer. The ships accounted for most of Alaska’s 1.3 million visitors in 2019, before the pandemic.

Cruising Restarts! Celebrity Cruises Sailing in June 2021 from St Maarten, Royal Sailing from Nassau
Today (Friday Mach 19), Celebrity Cruises announced that starting in June they'll be offering seven night Caribbean cruises from Sint Maarten. Sister company Royal Caribbean also announced they'll be sailing from Nassau - the first resumption of Caribbean cruising by major cruise lines, a major step forward for the industry, and a fantastic opportunity for guests to enjoy what are truly wonderful itineraries.

Confession time: I'm so excited typing this I'm not even sure what to say, so let's start with the basics for Celebrity's sailings - which we'll almost certainly be hopping on. For info on Royal Caribbean check the link below.

The Ship: Celebrity Millennium
Celebrity Millennium is a Millennium class ship from Celebrity, and carrying around 2,100 passengers, this is the smallest class of ship from Celebrity (except for their Galapagos fleet). She recently underwent a stem-to-stern refurbishment as part of the Celebrity Revolution program, an effort that we've found is brining a fresh, modern, and practical take to the entire fleet.

Celebrity Millennium

When: June 2021
The first Millennium sailing out of St Maarten will depart on June 5th 2021.

The Itineraries
Aside from finally getting to cruise safely, this may be our favorite part. There are two itineraries being offered, both to the Southern Caribbean (given they depart from St Maarten), and all three include some of our favorite spots in all of the Caribbean. We've often praised the Southern Caribbean as having beauty, architecture, and culture that is distinct from other parts of the Caribbean, and now these spots can be enjoyed without the 9+ nights sailings that are often required when sailing from South Florida. St Maaren is, in and of itself, a great place to visit, so if travel restrictions allow, this could be a beautiful place to extend your trip, and practice your French, your Dutch, or just work on your tan.

How to Cruise and Book
All guests 18+ must be vaccinated for COVID-19 in order to sail (and all crew will be vaccinated as well). Guests under 18 will be permitted with a negative COVID test 72 hours or less before the sailing. There are special air-sea rates to make getting to and from the island of St Maarten easily - though we're awaiting clarification on whether you MUST book air through the cruise line - we'll update here when we find out. Sailings will be available to book starting March 25!

There is a TON of pent-up demand, so we suggest booking ASAP. In fact, fill out the form on this page (to the side or at the bottom), or click here and you can request a quote from our friends and longtime partners. Doing this will not only ensure you're getting a great rate from helpful travel experts (and trust me, these folks are as excited about cruising as you are), but you'll be put in the queue to get official quotes as soon as Celebrity makes them available.

What's Included
Back in November of 2020 Celebrity Announced their new fare structure and "Always Included" rates. This means that your cruise fare includes alcoholic beverages, WiFi, tips, and more. According to Celebrity's press release (below), rates for these sailings will start at just $1999 for a verandah stateroom, which includes everything we just mentioned, plus of course entertainment, dining, and more. In fact, the announcement seems to indicate these rates may even include air - but similar to above we'll update as soon as we learn more.

Royal Caribbean Also Resuming!
Shortly after Celebrity announced their St Maarten sailings, sister line Royal Caribbean announced that Adventure of the Seas will start sailing from Nassau, Bahamas in June. The overall requirements for sailing will be the same, but additional information is still coming in. You can read more on this over at RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com. Not sure which cruise to take in June? Both? Our travel partners can help sort it out and make the new rules for cruising clear and easy to navigate.

Celebrity's Release
MIAMI (March 19, 2021) – Celebrity Cruises announced its long-anticipated return to cruising today, as company President and CEO, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo confirmed that the revolutionized Celebrity Millennium, the ship at the forefront of the fleet’s $500 million modernization program and featuring the exclusive open-air hideaway The Retreat®, will homeport in the tropical paradise of St. Maarten beginning June 5.

Beginning March 25, eager travelers can turn their vacation dreams into a dream vacation when booking opens for new seven-night itineraries departing through August to some of the best-loved Caribbean island destinations. The ship will sail with vaccinated crew and will be available to vaccinated adult guests and children under the age of 18 with a negative test result within 72 hours of embarkation.

Guests can take advantage of special air and sea pricing offering exceptional savings on all Summer 2021 St. Maarten sailings starting at $1,999* per person for a veranda stateroom. The offer applies to new bookings and flights must be booked through Flights By Celebrity and prices include airfare and taxes. No promotional code is needed.

Celebrity Cruises President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said, “Returning to the Caribbean after more than a year away is such a significant moment for us. It marks the measured beginning of the end of what has been a uniquely challenging time for everyone. We have been in constant contact with the leadership of St. Maarten these past months to support each other and share learnings and best practices. That we’re able to offer people the opportunity to safely vacation onboard the revolutionized Celebrity Millennium, is incredible, and that we will sail from the magical island of St. Maarten is very special. I am forever grateful for the support and collaboration of the St. Maarten Government.”

“Having a major cruise line such as Royal Caribbean Group’s Celebrity Cruises homeport here is a significant economic milestone for St. Maarten. It’s an historic agreement, the fruit of continuous dialogue and a testament to the strength of our longstanding relationship,” Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunication (TEATT) Ludmila de Weever declared. “Celebrity Cruises homeporting here will help rejuvenate our economy and drive opportunities for our people. I would like to thank the management team at the Royal Caribbean Group for their commitment to St. Maarten and their confidence in the Ministry of TEATT as a reliable and responsible partner. I look forward to the successful re-launch of their Caribbean cruising,” Minister de Weever concluded.

The ship now boasts brand new staterooms, freshly appointed restaurants and lounges; and a redesigned spa offering guests unparalleled ways to relax and recharge. At the all-exclusive The Retreat, guests enjoy a private sundeck and redesigned lounge offering complimentary beverages, gourmet bites, live entertainment, and around-the-clock butler and concierge service.

Stunningly reimagined restaurants, bars, and lounges where guests can enjoy unparalleled culinary experiences in captivating environments;
New boutiques featuring the hottest designer names;
Celebrity’s Advanced RFID lock technology with digital key access to every stateroom door.

Healthy at Sea
The company’s first priority is the health and safety of guests, crew, and the people in the places that its ships visit.

Celebrity Millennium will sail with comprehensive, multilayered health and safety measures developed with expert guidance from parent company Royal Caribbean Group’s Healthy Sail Panel and Global Head of Public Health and Chief Medical Officer; and local health and government authorities. These measures, including vaccination requirements, will evolve in keeping with current public health standards. Details on all health and safety measures across the entire Celebrity Cruises vacation experience can be found at https://www.celebritycruises.com/healthy-at-sea. In addition, guests must meet St. Maarten’s travel requirements, which currently include presenting a negative PCR test taken within 72-hours of arrival to the island.

Simplifying the luxury vacation experience, Wi-Fi, drinks and tips are now ‘Always IncludedSM’ on every Celebrity cruise. And, Celebrity’s “Cruise with Confidence” program provides flexible cancellations and best price guarantees.

St Maarten Port Makes Masks Mandatory. Saint Maarten is slowly opening up its borders, but is requiring all visitors to wear masks and be tested prior to their arrival on the popular island. On the website offering official updates on the island, the new protocols are spelled out even as St. Maarten prepares to welcome back visitors. “Since March, we’ve all been staying home, wearing masks and social distancing for the safety of all our citizens and visitors,” the site reads.

“The time away has been a bitter moment for all of us, but The Friendly Island is proud to announce that we’ll soon be welcoming back our international visitors to our beautiful shores. We kindly ask [that they] read our safety protocol and travel requirements” before arriving, it continues.

Masks Will Be Required At All Times

The Ministry of Public Health has set the following guidelines, which must be followed by all visitors.

Wear your mask at all timesAdhere to social distancingAvoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouthHave a negative test ready and a copy of a health declaration form

This last item is particularly important, as it requires all visitors over the age of 10 have proof that they have a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours prior to their “day of travel.”

The island, like other destinations, is doing a phased reopening. The first phase, which went into effect on June 15, opened the borders to visitors from several surrounding islands. As of now, the island is opening to visitors from around the world with the exception of the United States

While the site indicates that U.S. visitors will be welcome as of August 1st, it also says that this is subject to change.

St. Maarten is also recommending that every visitor purchase travel insurance and keep hand sanitizer on them at all times.

At the moment, the only cruise lines that are sailing are European cruise lines in Northern Europe. River cruising in North America is set to resume later this month with ocean cruising still on hold until further instructions from the U.S. Centers for Disease control. The current no sail order is set to expire on July 24, 2020.

RIVM: TOURISTS CAN GRADUALLY RETURN TO ISLANDS: According to the RIVM, authorities must take a good look at the corona situation in countries of origin to determine the risk. If tourists are admitted, it is advisable to take risk-reducing measures and good preparations to be able to detect a possible outbreak faster.
According to the RIVM, it is important to inform the population carefully about how to prepare for the risks introduced with the arrival of tourists and the behavioral adjustments that are desired to reduce the risks.

RIVM's advice was drawn up after the third OMT Caribbean of 29 May. Representatives from public health, medical microbiological laboratories, hospitals and ambulance care from the four countries of the Kingdom were invited.

The islands must also provide sufficient testing capacity on the island itself so that it is possible to test and intervene quickly.
