We knew that the lionesses had hidden their cubs in a thicket at the base of the Kopjes and we left camp in the dark to position ourselves for the lionesses return from a night of hunting. The cubs were tiny, less than two weeks old, still blind, but they certainly knew about mum and milk. Even at that age they wrestled over access to nipples.
