Howlers and Violin
Expat gatherings are often unique experiences. The calls of howler monkeys in the nearby trees are a very Nicaraguan addition to a live classical violin performance on the slopes of Volcan Mombacho at a recent get together. Though the weather was hazy, the view is looking over Granada, Las Isletas, and Lake Nicaragua.

I love living in Nicaragua.
Great show by the kids of San Juan del Sur Day School. Bravo! Students are from all over the world, including Nicaraguans. Kudos to the directors and everyone else who are making sure that young people understand and appreciate the culture and traditions of the country in which they live.

Less Stress, More Freedom, and all the Comforts of “The Good Life”
Every Monday night, we go to Take-It-Easy Monday at El Timon restaurant, a night for expats and Nicaraguans to listen to the top 40 hits from the 60s through today. The band is Nicaraguan and they don't speak English, but boy can they sing in English! Better than most bands I've heard! $2.00 appetizers like seafood crepes, fish carpaccio, slider hamburger on fried plantains and coconut shrimp. Also $2.50 cocktails - pina colada, the redhead, margarita and mojito. What a special night in San Juan del Sur!
When we talk about moving to Nicaragua, we always mention the great weather, the low cost to live here, the wonderful people, fine health care and how easy it is to open a business. But there's something else...it's the FEELING you get when you live here. You experience new things, have unusual adventures...it's almost like you are 20 again and experiencing life for the first time. In fact, it's just like that! Here you are free to be the real you, able to do what you want, even if it's crazy. Like here I am, playing the marimba (indigenous Nicaraguan instrument) with an 8-piece band at the anniversary show of the most popular restaurant in San Juan del Sur. CRAZY!! I wouldn't be doing this kind of thing back home, that's for sure. Come to Nicaragua and be young again! The fountain of youth is here....waiting for you.
Who doesn't love a parade? Matagalpa certainly does. And every February, commemorating the anniversary of becoming a city, Matagalpa's CARNIVAL delights young and old with tradition, color, dancing, music, spirit and fun. Just one of dozens of parades during the year. A happy day in this mountain town.
If you LOVE horses, make sure to stop by Matagalpa's HIPPICA, or horse parade, held in February, the week of the city's anniversary. You've never seen a horse parade like this, supposedly the best in all of Nicaragua. Since the city was settled by ranchers, you know you will be viewing the most magnificent horses possible. And they don't just walk down the street....they dance....they prance...they sometimes even move to the rhythm of salsa or reggaeton. It's about four hours long and well worth the price. IT'S FREE!!! Spectacular day in Matagalpa!
Check out Poneloya Beach, Nicaragua... would you like to be there right now?
Poneloya Beach, Nicaragua - International Living
www.internationalliving.com Suzan Haskins and Dan Prescher visit the beach at Poneloya near Leon, Nicaragua. One of the favorite holiday beach escapes for Managuans, Poneloya's wide beach is lined with old family beach homes, many of which are on offer as younger Nicaraguans choose other, less traditional hiliday destinations. But the factors that have made Poneloya a favorite for older generations are all still here... beautiful sea, sun, and sand.
