Huge congratulations to Jim Walker who has been recognised with an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2024 for services to tourism.

Jim is one of the best-known figures in our industry and the Chair of our Eden Tourism Network.

We’re thrilled to hear today’s news that Cumbria Tourism President Jim Walker has been recognised with an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2024 for services to tourism. 👏👏👏

One of the best-known figures in our industry, Jim has built his reputation in travel and tourism over more than 40 years and continues to serve CT members and champion the industry with all the passion and enthusiasm he’s shown over the past four decades.

The MBE award is so well-deserved and we offer our warmest congratulations!

➡️ Jim was part of Cumbria Tourism’s Board for 12 years – including a stint as interim Managing Director and later Chairman – so it’s particularly fitting that Jim receives the MBE in our 50th Anniversary year.

➡️ He has been a leading light in bringing significant overseas tourism to Cumbria - spearheading early missions to Japan alongside public and trade exhibition presences in the UK and beyond.

➡️ Jim is also widely acknowledged for championing major developments to the county’s infrastructure and product, and helping local authorities to work more closely with the county’s tourism operators.

➡️ He is the Founder Chair of the Eden Tourism Network and a previous recipient of both ‘Tourism Personality of the Year’ at the 2022 Cumbria Tourism Awards and the ‘Lifetime Contribution to Cumbria’ award at the in-Cumbria Business Awards.

➡️ For the last 22 years Jim has been employed by LLake District Estates Co.Ltd

Kirkby Stephen in the 1940s event will take place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July.

Live entertainment for both days has been confirmed including Rachel Grace the Skylarkof Vintage on the Saturday and the return of Harri Dean on the Sunday.

There will be a display of military vehicle provided by the Military Vehicle Trust and a fine example of 1940s tractor on the Saturday. There will be exhibits in the town centre and a road run on both days between Kirkby Stephen and Winton.

Parking on site is reserved for blue badge holders and there is a free Park and Ride from the auction mart operated by Cumbria Classic Coaches.
