Admittedly, rocking up to this spot for the first time, alone, in pitch darkness, and standing less than 5 meters from a faint outline of an old, rotting, ghostly war ship was a little daunting, however after spending a couple of hours taking over 300 photos for a timelapse or star trails, that somewhat eerie feeling dissipated and the excitement of the potential to get a great photo seeped in.

The "Eye of the Earth", Mount Dinara Nature Park, Croatia.

This karst spring is named as such due to its strong resemblance to an eye with the various shades of blue and turquoise when seen from above. It is formed by a hole of unknown precise depth, but is said to be apparently more than 300 ft deep. This small body of water is the primary source of the Cetina River, the longest river in Dalmatia. The Cetina flows for about 65 miles from the northwestern slopes of Dinara, the highest mountain massif in Croatia standing at 6,000 feet above sea level, until it merges with the Adriatic Sea.

The 'Tree of Life' near Kalaloch Campground in the Olympic National Park, Washington state, United States.

This Sitka spruce is referred to as the 'Tree of Life', the 'Kalaloch tree' or even the 'Runaway tree' by some people and is seemingly just strolling along the headland! It hangs almost in midair with all of its roots exposed but only a few holding onto the two steep slopes on each side. How has it been able to survive for so long and continue to grow, nobody really knows. Even erosion and intense storms affecting the coast has not stopped this incredible tree from thriving.

Incredible thunderstorm at Crater Lake National Park, Oregon, USA.

As related by the photographer, there was wildfire spreading throughout the west in 2013. On this particular night, smoke from the nearby fires had obscured the view of almost everything around the area. Then, a summer storm came and filled the sky with a combination of smoke, clouds, rain and lightning which started crashing all around, altogether creating a spectacular scene.

Centuripe, a town shaped like a human figure when viewed from above, Province of Enna, Sicily, southern Italy.

Apparently founded by the Sicilians, the city has very ancien origins and today it has just over 5,000 inhabitants. Centuripe is located on the summit line of a mountain formation at an average altitude of 733 m above sea level. So how did it end up having this particular shape? After the terrible earthquake that struck Sicily in 1408, along with an eruption of Etna, many areas near Catania were destroyed and several families decided to take up residence on the ruins of Centuripe. Over the centuries, the planning system has continued to grow in regards with the primitive lines, following the position and form of the mountains - thus resulting in the town assuming this distinct 5-lobed shape.

Casa Batlló is a building in the center of Barcelona. It was designed by Antoni Gaudí, and is considered one of his masterpieces. A remodel of a previously built house, it was redesigned in 1904 by Gaudí and has been refurbished several times after that. Gaudí's assistants Domènec Sugrañes i Gras, Josep Canaleta and Joan Rubió also contributed to the renovation project.

Like everything Gaudí designed, Casa Batlló is only identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau in the broadest sense. The ground floor, in particular, has unusual tracery, irregular oval windows and flowing sculpted stone work. There are few straight lines, and much of the façade is decorated with a colorful mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles (trencadís). The roof is arched and was likened to the back of a dragon or dinosaur. A common theory about the building is that the rounded feature to the left of centre, terminating at the top in a turret and cross, represents the lance of Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia, Gaudí's home), which has been plunged into the back of the dragon.

In 2005, Casa Batlló became an UNESCO World Heritage Site among the other Works of Antoni Gaudí, and is visited by people from around the world.
