The Art of Indochina Travel

Robert Louis Stevenson wrote "for to travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive." Similarly, in The Art of Travel Alain de Botton argues against disappointment, proposing that "the destination is of far less importance than an awareness of why we are on the move at all." Still, Martin Buber notes "All journeys have a secret destination of which the traveler is u

naware." Definitely more promising, which brings is to Indochina. Languid, vivid, devastated, bold, enigmatic... exotic. Very few places in the world are as fascinating... or are as challenging, at least to plan and arrange a meaningful trip that won't wind up reinforcing the negative. We've excelled at doing this since we organized the first adventure tours over 16 years ago. We believe travel should be inherently personal and aside from our Photography Series and annual Arts and Lunar New Year tours, we meticulously organize private customized journeys that reflect every one of our client's unique style of travel. Because we organize our own tours in the region, our private tours cost about the same or less than other's group tours, while providing a more comprehensive and authentic travel experience, we know you'll be even more pleased with us.

Japan's Sublime Ryokans
"Do not speak Japanese when you come to Japan, but learn to speak silence.” —Pico Iyer

Ryokan (traditional Japanese inns) offer the finest essence of Omotenashi - Japan's culture of hospitality. Ryokan feature tatami mats, futon bedding, local crafts and art, hand-crafted kaiseki dining, gardens, ponds, and typically, warm hot-spring bath to soak in (onsen). We recommend staying in at least one or two during your trip, ideally in a remote natural settings of a place like the Japanese Alps.
