Welcome to the 'eircab' app page. The purpose of this page is to gauge the feeling of taxi drivers for a 'Driver' owned App.
My name is Frank Kenny, a former taxi driver and founding member of a traditional taxi co-op in 2010.
I am currently a 4th year mature student at IADT Dun Laoghaire. I am promoting (not the owner) the idea a taxi driver owned app.
As part of my studies I started to research the feasibility of a driver owned app in 2017. I stopped as another 'apparent' driver owned app got in ahead. I didn't want to confuse the matter and wanted to allow that entity to have a go as it claimed to have the same objectives.
Now that has changed I will go ahead again. There is a college made amateur video below that tries to explain the idea. I used it in a pitch in college and it was well received to a point.
Over the next 6 months I will have the use of college facilities and intend to conduct research, surveys and run focus groups to identify the best fit 'app'for Irish Taxi Drivers.
A founding 'voluntary' committee of taxi drivers will be needed to establish and register the co-op with the Registrar of Friendly societies at Companies House. I will post more about how to be involved this as it progresses.
To be clear, this co-op app will be all inclusive, open to all SPSV driver licence holders in Ireland. It will be a one share, one vote organisation that will be set up in such a way that ensures no one person or group can take the co-op over.
There may be investment from partners but purely on a investment basis and would only happen if the membership agreed. They would have no votes or any influence on how the co-op app is run.
