@crossingforcf CLOSE ENCOUNTER!
“A rare sighting of a Great Hammerhead during the 10 year anniversary of the Crossing For Cystic Fibrosis event! Malea Tribble a 3x participant & 2x paddler in The Crossing event, was surprised by a curious and friendly visitor, while paddling from the Bahamas to Florida in the annual fundraiser for the CF community. Malea’s husband Ricky, who was on the boat at the time & her relay partner paddling with her in the event, was the first to spot the tall dorsal fin as it rose up behind Male on her board. Their team was almost halfway across the Gulf Stream, out of sight of land, when the shark appeared. Ricky was able to calmly give his wife direction on maneuvering the situation to get safely to the boat without incident. Both Ricky & Malea are experienced paddlers & official mentors with The Crossing community. Stats show according to the International Shark Attack File, which is the world’s only scientifically documented database of all known shark attacks, since 1900 there have been 16 recorded incidents between humans & hammerhead sharks, and of those, there have been zero deaths.
Founder & Executive Director of The Crossing For CF, Travis Suit, reflected on the situation, ‘We are grateful Malea was not harmed & so proud of the calm & disciplined response the Tribble’s had during the situation as paddle mentors in this event, providing a great example of how to handle close encounters like this. We are visitors when we are in the ocean, it’s really their home, so it’s to be expected.’ According to Malea, ‘None of us felt unsafe. We felt calm. I didn’t have time to allow myself to be scared. Even an encounter as unique as mine would not deter me from competing in The Crossing again. Our “why” for this event is the foundation itself. As a CF family, we always come back to that. This event is about being “Bold in the Face of Fear” - mother nature made that a reality for me in a way I never imagined. I face

@marlondutoit —The Black Heron, a wading bird with long legs, neck, and beak, has a clever trick during mealtime. While fishing, it adopts “canopy feeding” by tucking its head down and spreading its wings around its body, creating a sunshade-like shelter. This ingenious behavior helps the bird stay cool while searching for food, showcasing nature’s remarkable adaptability.

@leavingherfootprints had a one-of-a-kind wake-up call!🐺
How would you react?
The Wolf Cabin stands out as the most luxurious among the park’s accommodations. Its panoramic bay windows provide unobstructed views of the magnificent wolves. You can easily get acquainted with the wolf pack from the coziness of your contemporary room, creating cherished memories you’ll always treasure. Plus, the accommodation grants access to an observation lookout and a bridge, where you can watch the animals from above. Keep an eye out, as you might even spot wild deer roaming freely in the lodging area.

@chengruwang —Meet the oarfish (Regalecus glesne), one of the rarest fish in the world and a likely inspiration for sea monster legends. Normally, humans only encounter this deep sea creature when it washes up dead on shores.
These lucky scuba divers got an extraordinary chance to see it alive.
This incredible fish holds another impressive record - it’s the longest bony fish known to us, with the biggest one measuring a whopping 36 feet (11 meters) long. The oarfish has a unique way of swimming - vertically, with its head up and tail down - and it can move both horizontally and vertically in the water. Quite a fascinating creature, isn’t it?
