Ras Mohammed National Park occupies one of the world's most extraordinary settings: a slender, dramatically arid peninsula at the very southernmost tip of the Sinai, rising to a dramatic promontory that looks out over some of the most gloriously rich coral reefs that you will ever see. The Ras Mohammed peninsula marks the nexus of the shallow Gulf of Suez and the deep intercontinental chasm of the Gulf of Aqaba, itself a small portion of the Great Rift Valley that stretches deep into Africa. Declared a park in 1983, Ras Mohammed contains within its modest area an astounding variety of life, ranging from the gazelles of its northern desert area to the brilliant orange coral groupers of its skirting reefs.

The boundaries of Ras Mohammed extend far out into the surrounding waters, and even the most casual of visitors is struck by how much of the park is dominated by the sea. Even the dry land area of the park seems a part of the marine world: in the north, large dunes are interspersed with outcroppings of Miocene limestone in which are embedded an astonishing wealth and variety of marine fossils. In fact, the dramatic promontory that marks the Sinai's southernmost tip belongs in part to the sea, as it is in fact an enormous, fossilized coral reef, left high and dry tens of thousands of years ago.

For many visitors, Ras Mohammed's most stunning scenery is found underwater, in the broad, terraced coral reefs that encircle the peninsula. Fire corals and brilliant sea fans abound here, and among these lush reef corals roams a truly magnificent array of both reef and pelagic fish--over a thousand species in all

The ambience and cultural heritage, along with an exotic Orient flavor, is truly captivating and attracts travelers from all over the world.

Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, Alexandria became the capital of the Graeco-Roman Egypt. This was also the center of learning in the ancient world.
From the 19th c, Alexandria became the focus for Egypt's commercial and maritime expansion. No wonder, it has evolved as an ideal tourist destination. In a word, Alexandria is a city to explore at random.

Tourism in Alexandria means exploring the archaeological sites of the ancient times or sunbathing on the tranquil beaches. Discover the fascinating world preserved in the libraries and museums of the city or dance the night away in the nightclubs and discos. Where else will you get such a combination between old and new?

Visit the Graeco-Roman Museum, Pompey's Pillar, the Roman Amphitheatre, Catacombs of Kom al-Shoqafa and discover the real history. Al-Shatby Necropolis, the tombs of Al-Anfushi and Mustafa Kamel will tell you those intriguing tales of power, ambition and destruction. The Fort of Qaitbay, the mosque of Mursi Abul Abbas, Al-Montazah Palace stand as witnesses of history’s greatest examples of architectural splendor.

There are golden sun-kissed beaches stretching from east to west where you can spend a perfect laid-back afternoon. The beaches of Maamura, Montaza Assafra, Miamy, Sidi Bishr, San Stefano, Ibrahimia and Shatby lie along the seafront boulevard.

Tourism in Alexandria means more. So, come and explore Alexandria, the desert city and its saga.

Port Said...mesmerizing pictures!

Rana

Port Said (Arabic بورسعيد transliterated Būr Saʻīd) is a city in north-east Egypt, near the Suez Canal, with an approximate population of 515,007 (2001). The city was established in 1859 during the building of the Suez Canal.

The economic base of Port Said is fishing and industries, like chemicals, processed food, and ci******es. Port Said is also an important harbor both for exports of Egyptian products like cotton and rice, but also a fueling station for ships that pass through the Suez Canal. Port Said also thrives on being a duty-free port, as well as a summer resort for Egyptians.[citation needed]

There are numerous old houses with grand balconies on all floors, giving the city a distinctive look. Port Said's twin city is Port Fouad, which lies on the eastern side of the canal. The two cities coexist, to the extent that there hardly is any town center in Port Fouad. The cities are connected by free ferries running all through the day, and together they form a metropolitan area with over a million residents.

The diocese of Port-Said for the Coptic Orthodox Church was founded in 1976 by his grace Bishop Tadros. In 1993, the late subdeacon Nosshy Attia Anbary wrote the history of the diocese in Arabic.[citation needed]

In addition to its port, the city is served by Port Said Airport.

Both in the Suez Crisis (1956) and in the Yom Kippur War (1973) Port Said was heavily demolished.

Mosque of Mohamed Ali

Mohamed Ali Mosque is amongst the most interesting Mosques in Egypt. It stands proudly on the highest point inside the courtyard of the Citadel of Saladin, and is also called the Alabaster Mosque.

The architect was Yousf Boushnaq, a Turkish man who had come over from Istanbul to build this great Mosque for Mohamed Ali, the ruler of Egypt from1805 until 1849. He based his plans on the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul, and the construction began in 1830 A.D. The work continued ceaselessly until the death of Mohamed Ali in 1849, and had to be finished during the reign of his successors. Mohamed Ali was buried in the tomb situated on the south-eastern side of Beit Al Salah, on the right side of the entrance that leads to the main section.

In 1899 the Mosque showed signs of cracking and repairs were undertaken, but some of these repairs were not adequate. Therefore, in 1931, during the reign of King Fuad I, a committee was set up, comprising of several great architects, which eventually presented a report recommending the demolition of the big main dome, the semi domes and the small domes, and then reconstructing them according to the original design. Between 1931 and 1939, the project, including demolition, building and rebuilding, painting and gilding, was undertaken; the total cost being 100,000 LE.

The main material used for the construction was limestone, but the lower parts of the Mosque, and the forecourt, are faced to a height of 11.5m with alabaster.

The Mosque is rectangular in shape and consists of two sections:
The Eastern Section, which is the main section, called “Beit al Salah" or “House of Prayer”.
The Western Section, called the “Sahn” "or “Courtyard".

.•.MarSa Matruh.•.
Marsa Matruh is a Mediterranean seaport in Egypt. It is 240 km (149 miles) west of Alexandria and 222 km from Sallum, on the main highway from the Nile Delta to the Libyan border. Another highway leads south from the town, toward the Western Desert and the oases of Siwa and Bahariya.

During Ancient Egyptian times and during the reign of Alexander The Great, the city was known as Amunia. In Ptolemaic and Byzantine times it was known as Paraitonion (Παραιτόνιον), and in Roman times, as Paraetonium.

Marsa Matruh is a main Egyptian tourist city, and serves as a getaway resort for Europeans and Cairenes eager to flee the capital in the sweltering summer months. It is served by Mersa Matruh Airport. The city is known for its white soft sands and calm transparent waters; the bay is protected from the high seas by a series of rocks forming a natural breakwater, with a small opening to allow light vessels in.

Jahrhundert entdeckt.

Oasis of Wadi Natroun ♥

One of the most significant places in the Western Desert is Wadi El Natroun, situated 100km north west of Cairo. It is a geological salt lakes vale indented in the desert, that owes it's name to the Natroun salt, very relevant to Ancient Egyptians as it was emplyed in the mummification procedure. It is a birdwatchers paradise and became the site of many monasteries in spiritual commemoration of the Holy Family's passage through the valley. The monasteries benefit from the atmosphere of seclusion and tranquility that engulfs the whole dale and deserve a visit for their fine examples of Coptic art.

The library accommodates many valuable books and manuscripts and the small museum houses a fine collection of icons.
Deir Anba Bishoi or Monastery of St Pshoi, who founded not only this monastery but also the close by Al-Sorian's. The church contains the remains of the saint and two charming chapels.

Subsequent Biblical history says it all: "They arrived home in Nazereth, from where the message of Christ would, in the fullness of time, be heard".

Deir El Baramus or Monastery of the Romans, the oldest of the sites in the Wadi. houses five churches. St. John the Baptist's Church lodges a superb ivory icon work.

Deir Al-Sorian or Monastery of the Syrians, named after Syrian monks who inhabited the monastery in the 8th century, contains exquisite wall paintings in it's Church of The Virgin Mary.

The desert view from the top of it's fortified keep is breathtaking.

Deir Abu Makar, or Monastery of St. Makarios, some 20 km south of St. Pshoi's, has given many Coptic popes among it's monks and contains tombs of many patriarchs and martyrs including the founder's itself. It is the most secluded and it is necessary to obtain a visit permission issued by it's Cairo administrative office.

The Holy Family found haven in Egypt for almost four years after their flight from Bethlehem for fear of Kinf Herod's persecution. Through the centuries their epic journey has been revived and revered by Egyptians with many holy sites.

The sacred travellers ventured all the way from Bethlehem, through Sinai, to Sakha in the north of the Nile Delta to Assiut in Middle Egypt. Old Cairo is among the most important locations visited by the Hoy Family where the spiritual impact of their presence is most felt still. Some of such sites in the Fortress of Babylon area are, The Church of Abu Serga, Al-Muallaqa or Hanging Church, The Church of St. Barbara and the Convent of St. Georges to mention just a few. At the Fustat section of the city, The Church of the Virgin Mary of Al-Deshiria, The Church of St.Mercurios Abu Sefein are among the hloy places. An air of devotion pervades the whole district.

Nevertheless, the most meaningful destination of all the land of Egypt is Mount Qussqam. There, the Monastery of Al Muharrag was built around the cave where the Holy Family dwelt for six months. This area is also known as Second Bethlehem. On their way back, they retraced more or less their steps on their outward journey across Sinai to Palestine.
