Vacation means digging in to a great book!
Newt had a great day today! Running with the pack around followed by a stroll around the South of the James Market (both with lots of dog buddies to greet and humans to charm!), a visit to patio where he got to see family favorite Brian, a cool time at / , lots of@love at Forest Hill while Mom got beer to go, a quick stop at the patio while Mom got a sandwich. And then a long nap! Plus he got this cool “drinking buddy” bandanna and dog treats from
Inspiring story of cross-cultural efforts to improve education for Black children, but still too much hatred and sorrow. I highly recommend the exhibit on Rosenwald schools at Celebrate progress. Never forget.
Just a few of the iconic Style Weekly covers and people from the exhibit at the Valentine, now open to the public. (And free this Sunday!) Thanks for the memories, and the continuing coverage,
Cider cocktail (Mojito, yum!) in this super dog friendly cidery! Cool new space, ! Plus a pride-focused afternoon and vendors. 🥰🌈

A newly released article on CNN.com has Richmond at the #1 spot for "America's Best Town to Visit in 2024" and includes quotes from me, as author of "100 Things to Do in Richmond Before You Die," as well as other people who make Richmond an amazing place: Kelli Lemon, Scott Jones, Hamilton Glass, Bill Martin, and Mike Lindsey! Arts, culture and culinary creations are on display in dynamic neighborhoods across Richmond. And the city is taking a hard look at its complicated history.
Fun times tonight at Altria Theater (with three of my favorite people!)!
Fascinating look behind the scenes at The Valentine with director Bill Martin, on a member tour. The "all Richmond all the time" museum has such an extensive collection, carefully stored for future research and exhibitions, along with informative, eye-opening exhibits. The tour was a rich reminder of the value of membership dollars and contributions! Oh, and it confirmed, yet again, why it deserves a place in my book, “100 Things to Do in Richmond Before You Die”!
Still wondering where to take Dad tomorrow? Pick up a copy of “100 Things to Do in Richmond Before You Die” for dozens of ideas! These copies are at The Valentine, where you can also pick up a copy of “Virginia Beer” and lots of other great locally focused gifts. And browse some enlightening exhibits while you’re there, too.
I stumbled upon this video of friend, fellow writer, and creative busy woman Kari Smith! Baby goats!

He’s here!
Fun AND informative! The Richmond streetcar tour! Looking forward to tomorrow’s Richmond Sampler bike tour (and to the future of a more bike-friendly RVA).
Picked up a copy of “James” by Percival Everett at Shelf Life today and while there confirmed that they still carry my book, “100 Things to Do in Richmond Before You Die,” too. 🥰 I can’t wait to dig into “James.” Humorous but powerful and thought provoking, I hear. Perhaps in that sense at least not so different from Twain, if you read between the lines.

Toasting the preview weekend of Richmond’s newest brewery, Brainstorm Brewhouse, serving at Black Heath Meadery. A bee-utiful, hoppy pairing 😁 Enjoying a delightful DDH NEIPA. Also in the lineup, an English style mild and an American light lager. Congratulations
