Samo stali so in čakali, kaj bova – zato sva spet navsezgodaj pakirala, a tokrat s 30 pari oči, uprtimi v naju. :)

Shock While Wild Camping & Going Home

We wild camped for the last time in Denmark among meadows, pastures, and forests south of Copenhagen.

But when Miha stepped out of the tent the next morning, 30 students and teachers on bikes were staring at him! :D

Apparently, they had a field day and wanted to explore the surroundings of the wild-camping site, but certainly did not expect to stumble upon two sleepy Slovenians who beat them to it! :D

They were just standing in their spots, waiting – so we were packing up early in the morning once again, only this time with 30 pairs of eyes fixed on us! :D

When we were cycling through Copenhagen to the bus station, we subconsciously slowed down so we could enjoy the vibe of the city and the great bicycle paths one last time.
Then we boarded the Flixbus and returned home.

Our Scandinavian adventure came to an end. :(

Fourth Puncture (no kidding! :D) & Copenhagen, a Cyclist's Paradise

It had been a while since we woke up at 7 am on this trip and were already cycling at 8, but our hosts had to leave for work and school so we also had an early start – right up to Miha's fourth puncture. :D

Because of that, we decided to go straight to the Danish capital instead of risking any more punctures in the countryside.

And so we were devoured by Copenhagen, a city of thousands of bikes! :)

Miha's statement says it all: »This cycle path is wider than a two-lane road in Ireland!«

And it's true – these are not just bicycle paths but bicycle ROADS, with signposts, bicycle traffic lights, turning lanes for cyclists, as well as foot stands and hand railings so you don't have to get off the bike at a red light.
A parallel road system indeed!

Copenhagen itself struck us as the most chilled, relaxed city we've ever been to.
There are no nervous drivers, people are enjoying themselves lounging on piers, outside cafes, and in parks, and there's water everywhere you go.

An interesting fact: you're never more than 50 kilometres away from the sea in Denmark! :)

Zanimivi pogovori, nekaj sanjarjenja ob atlasu sveta in udobje postelje. Mmm ... :)

From Sweden to Denmark & A Shared Meal

Muesli with banana and coffee for breakfast, brushing teeth by a well with an ocean view, some push-ups to warm up, and then into the wind with full speed ahead – well the wind was blowing into us with all its might. No mercy! :D

That's why it took us such a long time to cycle the last few kilometres in Sweden – but then the ferry ride to Denmark was so short I got only one bite of my sandwich and we were already landing. :)

We (and a Swedish cyclist going from Amsterdam to Stockholm) spent the night with a Warm Showers family near Helsingor.

We all contributed something to our shared meal: Miha and I brought a loaf of bread and cheese, the hosts made spicy lentils soup with sour cream, and Bjorn prepared dessert: a fruit salad with whipped cream.

Interesting conversations, a bit of daydreaming over the atlas of the world, and then the comfort of the bed. Mmm… :)

Tretji gumidefekt & prvi shelter

-----

Third Puncture & First Shelter

Kim went to work in the morning while we slept in, and we only got on our bikes around 11 am.

The winding bicycle path among pine trees reminded us of Croatia, and we were happily cycling along until Miha’s rear tube started to give in again.
The reason: multiple cuts on his tire (probably because of cycling on sharp rocks in Slovenian Istria a few months back).
Don’t worry, Schwalbe has already received our order. :)

After failing to find a shelter to sleep in a few days ago, we made our second attempt today but were beat to it by a French hiker. So we sent up our tent nearby.

We had dinner together by the fire, sitting on the wooden platform, and went for a walk among grazing horses that galloped to the beach in the setting sun.

Kokice, švedsko pivo, estonski liker, sladkarije, cimetovo pecivo in čaj – materiala ni zmanjkalo! :)

Visiting Kim & A Sandy Beach

Instead of relying on the hospitality of Warm Showers hosts, this time we gratefully stayed at my friend Kim’s place. We met in England where we worked as teaching assistants a few years ago.

Kim prepared a royal breakfast for us all: boiled potatoes with sour cream and parsley, eggs, smoked salmon, and pickled herring.
This set the tone for the whole day: a feast! :)

We took a stroll to one of the sandy beaches in Halmstad, tried licorice, played mini golf, ate pizza in the town centre, and then went back home.
Popcorn, Swedish beer, Estonian liqueur, sweets, cinnamon buns, and tea – there was no shortage of anything! :)

Okoli 17h sva prispela na cilj: v kamp v priobalnem kraju Falkenberg, kjer zdaj doživljava luksuz v mobilni hiški z 2 spalnicama, kuhinjo in lastno kopalnico.
Udobje, pogrešala sva te! :)

-----

A Second Puncture & a Luxurious Mobile Home

The day did not start well for Miha.
During the night, he thought he was hearing someone walking around the tent in flip-flops (probably because of the falling rain) so he was listening carefully, holding a knife in his hand while I was happily snoring away. :)

Then in the morning, when everything was packed and we were ready to go, he realised he got another puncture.

After fixing the tube, we left the hills and returned to sea level.
The marked bicycle route was winding like a snake, and when we hadn’t done half of it after 40 kilometres we decided to just cycle on the main road.
Having done 81 kilometres, this was our longest stage so far.

Around 5 pm, we reached our final destination: a campsite in Falkenberg where we’re enjoying all the amenities of a mobile home: 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, and our very own bathroom.
Comfort, we’ve missed you! :)

Kolesarska pot Kattegattleden & divje kampiranje ob jezeru

Kattegattleden Bicycle Route & Wild Camping by a Lake

Miha is the navigator on this tour, and a damn fine one, must I say.
He studies the way, puts it into Google Maps, and then just shows me where to go left, right, or straight so I can ride in the back like a queen. :)

He, however, also got a chance today to enjoy without constantly looking on his phone, as we started following the 350-kilometre Kattegattleden Route.
It will take us from Göteborg all the way to the ferry that we're taking to Denmark.

It was such a pleasure to cycle on cycle tracks without other traffic, just follow the well-marked route, and marvel at the Swedish coastline!

We planned on sleeping in a shelter but when we started going uphill, treading on hiking trails deep in the forest, with Miha falling into a puddle reaching up to his knees, we had enough.

We turned around and found a wild-camping spot in the middle of nowhere on one of the lakes nearby. I put up the tent, Miha made a fire, and the evening was spent enjoying in the warmth and 4G internet. :)

-----

Göteborg & A Close Encounter with a Moose

After our longest stage so far (76 kilometres) and a wobbly cycle because of the strong headwind, we arrived in Göteborg to our host's house.

Peter is a former graphic designer for Volvo who shot a commercial with Jean-Claude Van Damme doing his famous split between two trucks. Yes, he actually did it. :)

In one of the city’s parks, we visited a free mini zoo with typical Swedish animals, where we even saw a moose.
Massive antlers, a robust body, and his legs stretching well over my head.
What an animal!

-----

First Puncture & Free Ferries

In the morning, we walked on the rocks above our little red cottage in Fjällbacka, watching the sunny islands across the bay for the last time.

We wouldn't mind trading our bikes for a boat or kayak for a day, going from one island to the next, stopping for a picnic, diving into the sea, and exploring what nature has to offer …
Well, it's a good reason to return someday! :)

Before we left, we had to find hosts for the next few days on the Warm Showers website, which Miha captured in this time-lapse video https://youtu.be/KBKD9wS-2V, and then we cycled on.

It was mostly sunny (woohoo :)) – until it started to rain, of course, and Miha had a puncture in the downpour.

To get to our host's place, we crossed a few islands and peninsulas taking 3 ferries – which, as expected by now, were free (for both cars and cyclists).

We took Annika's border collie Enzo (a big bundle of energy!) for an evening walk, ate potato pancakes and watched Welcome to Sweden, a TV show about Swedish stereotypes. They turn out to be quite true! :)

Zaradi takih nepričakovanih, nepozabnih trenutkov sva tu! :)

-----

The Swedish Archipelago & Sun-Kissed Fjällbacka

Apparently we had to go to Sweden for the sun to finally shine on us between all the downpours (unfortunately we didn’t get to see it in Norway).
We’re really glad we have waterproof panniers and can hide in bus stops when the rain gets too much to handle.

After having cycled 50 kilometres, we found a sun-kissed paradise!
Fjällbacka is a small town packed with colourful houses huddled beneath massive round rocks on one side and a calm port with tens of small islands on the other.
We're completely mesmerized by it!

We filled our red glamping cottage with all our gear, drying clothes, bottles of water, and chargers for all our electronic devices.

Miha prepared dinner and we had it on a blanket on the rocks overlooking the sea just as the sun was setting.
These unexpected, memorable moments are the reason we're doing this! :)

-----

Leaving Norway & Glamping in Sweden

Leaving Norge (Norway) today, we had to sweat our way over a hill to finally cross over to Sverige (Sweden).

Instead of searching for a place to wild camp after having cycled 60 kilometres, we decided to settle into a glamping cottage in Strömstad. We made the right decision as it's been raining since we arrived to the campsite.

This time I'm coming down with a cold but we're stuffing ourselves with all sorts of remedies (ginger, garlic, honey …) so we'll gradually get better.

Miha stacked up on Swedish craft beer and I stacked up on chocolate so the logical next step was – a movie night. :)

< 3. Skandinavija s kolesom> Mestni trajekti & divje kampiranje

Kam zdaj? Na levi glavna cesta, na desni reka … Ampak na drugi strani trajekt.
In sva se naučila nekaj novega o Norveški: del njihovega javnega potniškega prometa so tudi manjši trajekti – in to zastonj!

Zapeljala sva se na drugo stran in malo izven mesta našla idealen kotiček za divje kampiranje: gozdič ob obali Severnega morja.

Predstavljala sva si že, kako romantično bo zakuriti ogenj in opazovati spreminjanje barv sončnega zahoda v zalivu … Namesto tega pa sva izkusila roje požrešnih komarjev in vojsko gomazečih mravelj! :D

< 3. Scandinavia Bike Tour> City Ferries & Wild Camping

After having porridge (with blueberry jam, yum!) for breakfast, the hosts’ daughters went to school, the hosts went to work, and we headed into a (merely) cloudy day.

We cycled along colourful wooden houses, stopped in Moss for lunch, and then came across – the end of the cycle track in Fredrikstad.
Where do we go now? A busy road on the left, a river on the right … but a ferry on the other side.
So we learned that smaller ferries are part of the public transport in Norway, and they’re actually free!

We were taken across the water and soon after we found the perfect spot for wild camping: a small forest by the coast of the North Sea.

We could already picture ourselves by the fire, watching the sunset change the colours of the water in the bay … But instead, we were attacked by swarms of hungry mosquitoes and an army of ants! :D

We only stayed out long enough to eat dinner and then escaped into our tent.

Dež & sanjarjenje o Španiji

Miha: "Pa kam me ti vedno spraviš?!

-----
Rain & Daydreaming about Spain

Miha: ‘Why do you always take me to such places?! We could be cycling around Spain in 30 degrees, throw ourselves in the ocean with our clothes on without having to worry if they would dry or not, but we’re here instead!’

Well, when we got on our ‘tractors’ today and started our way towards the south, it was raining. :)
It was raining when we woke up.
It was raining when we left the house and put all our panniers on the bikes.
It was raining 20 minutes later when we were already cycling but realized we really had to put our rain gear on (although some of us don’t believe in rain :)).
And yes, it was still raining 5 hours later when we arrived in Hølen to a young hosting family.

We immediately felt at home in their house. Not only because of warm tea but mainly because we all sat down at their big dining table and were chatting about all sorts over a bowl of spaghetti.
After 65 kilometers and catching a cold, we wrapped ourselves in a warm blanket and await tomorrow.

Oslo

Oslo

After many months of debating where to cycle next (the Balkans, to Prague, or around Slovenia?), Miha and I mounted our bikes at the back of the Flixbus and drove to Scandinavia, because, well, why not? :)

GOAL: Oslo (Norway) – Sweden – Copenhagen (Denmark).

After 32 hours on the comfy bus (with sockets and Wi-Fi) we found ourselves the furthest north we wanted to go.

One of the most expensive countries in the world welcomed us with free coffee and buns. What a promising start! :)

It was still raining and the cloudy weather continued but that didn’t stop us from going for a stroll on the roof of the Opera House and around the city and its port. We even cheered at the Homeless World Cup in football (where Slovenia also participated)!

We then cycled to the outskirts of Oslo to meet our Warm Showers host Morten. He prepared salmon with chilli and veggies, and served ice cream with raspberries and 4 different types of chocolate sauce for dessert. Fit for a king!

We finally changed bus seats for a proper bed and slipped into deep sleep after not even 3 seconds. :)

When you're driving your rental car on narrow, winding roads that have a 100 km/h speed limit and all you see are signs that say 'SLOW' and 'THINK' - it's best to rent a bike and enjoy Killarney National Park.
This is Ireland for you! :)

Ko se z najetim avtom voziš po ozkih, ovinkastih cestah, kjer je omejitev 100 km/h in povsod videvaš napisa 'POČASI' in 'RAZMIŠLJAJ', je še najboljše najeti kolo in sproščeno uživati v vožnji po Narodnem parku Killarney.
To je prava Irska! :)

Whoever said northeastern Slovenia is flat as a pancake has obviously not cycled in Goričko yet! :)
