Morocco (4): Water in Morocco
When we went to Morocco I knew we would be visiting a beautiful waterfall in the Atlas Mountains and rafting down the Ahansal River to lake Bin El Ouidane. But what I didn't anticipate, nor anyone else, was running into the first rain and snow the areas around Marrakech had had in several years! I didn't go to Morocco thinking I would see a snow plow and road closures requiring a complete reworking of our itinerary one day but it just added to a great sense of adventure.
It made for very unique experiences such as seeing the Ouzoud Falls running like chocolate straight out of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory due to the heavy rain and run-off.
It did turn out to be a real 'water journey' as I love to let the water guide me wherever I go and, in a desert country, this offers new ways of experiencing water. Snow, rain, cloud, river, waterfall, stream, ocean, spa ....
The Imlil Valley's waterfalls running through picturesque hillsides and villages were very tempting to immerse in but they are a water source ...
And, of course, if you go to Marrakech you must experience a hammam (spa) where water is used to honor, cleanse, purify, heal and soothe the body in the most delightful ways, an art form.
Next time I long to see the true desert and experience water at its most sacred and precious. And the dear camels that have mastered the art of water storage and endurance....

What a gift to share the magic of the Way, the countryside and the unending gifts of beauty and nature that abound. Water to cool our feet, delicious food to nourish our body, flowers to fill our senses with pleasure, trails that let us stretch, breathe and feel alive, history that titillates.
A couple of years ago I began to do optional breathwork sessions on tours and I enjoy sharing simple, easy practices that help others connect more deeply with themselves and take home tools they can use for their health and well-being for the rest of their lives. Such a great sense of connection, belonging and life - being on the way...

Morocco (3): Imlil Valley
Delightful surprises of waterfalls, centenary chestnuts and spectacular views of the Atlas mountains hiking around the nine villages of the Imlil Valley, greeted on this day trip from Marrakesh with super local guides Aziz and Abdul from @explore_atlas_sahara . We also learned about argan for cosmetics and consumption and ate more delicious food. Thank you for a great day!

Rumi was a 13th C Sufi mystic who wrote a large number of very inspiring poems on the human spiritual journey through life. His words of wisdom travel through the ages like a breath of fresh sea air that never goes stale. Today's verse:
"I was happy enough to stay still inside the pearl inside the shell, but the hurricane of experience lashed me out of hiding and me a wave loving into shore. Saying loudly the ocean's secret as I went, and then, spent there, I slept like fog against the cliff, another stillness." - Rumi
Transformation is not for the faint-hearted. As he says it's easier to stay in the comfort of the shell within the pearl, safe and cozy. But when the hurricane of experience pulls you out of that place be prepared for hell to break loose within (and without). We must feel into those depths, walk boldly into those dark places, sit in them and tremble in them, and fall apart in them to move through and beyond them. Then, perhaps, we can finally rest like fog on the dune in stillness and peace.
