Talk about spooky - spooky talented that is. This pumpkin carving is about as Taber-perfect as it gets.Thank you to Suzy Mink at minkpumpkinportraits.com for the wonderful work and to Liz & David M. For sharing the picture to us. . .🎥

We finally found out why you say “cheese” when you smile for a picture. There are three reasons actually. . .🎥

If you’ve sailed with us, then you know that crossing the breakwater line is the official starting line of our adventures.

At the end of a mile long granite wall, sits the icon of our home port of Rockland - the breakwater lighthouse.

Stephen Taber was already 28 years old when the breakwater was completed in 1899.

The two together show the living history that windjamming is all about.

Our vessel has no engine, the wind writes our itinerary and the scenery makes it magic.

Nothing beats it.

Have you ever walked out to the end of the breakwater?

Nice breeze to whoosh us out of the harbor today.

As sure as maine summers are magic, September sailing is the second rabbit out of the hat.

The only thing southern about our Maine vacations is the hospitality.

And the Yawl Boat.

It’s called a yawl boat because, if you want to go ashore, then Y’all need to get in it.

Which isn’t true. Well, you do need to get in it to go ashore - and it is called a yawl boat, it’s just not a y’all boat.

It’s simple, really. We can explain it real easy when y’all are in the yawl boat.

How’s the water in Maine?

Brisk.

Refreshing.

COLD.

Always great fun, though.

This engineless, green-hulled beauty is the Schooner Stephen Taber, home port Rockland, Maine.

The 110’ Taber was built in 1871 and is one of the oldest documented sailing vessel in continuous service in the United States. It has apparently not missed a sailing season since being built 153 years ago.

The Taber was originally used to haul cargo up and down the New England coast before becoming a windjammer for tours and trips.

Photographed this weekend off of Northport on the Penobscot Bay.
