BirthCounts, LLC is owned by Jeanne-Marie Floyd, a certified childbirth educator (CCE) with BirthWorks, Int. In addition to offering childbirth classes, BirthCounts promotes community education, human rights in childbirth, informed consent, and evidenced-based birth education. Jeanne-Marie is also a contributing writer for The Birthing Site (www.thebirthingsite.com), where she is able to engage in
two of her favorite pastimes: writing and advocacy. BirthCounts was created in a spirit of wanting to see positive change for women and babies in the primal period (conception through the first birthday). Following her own two positive birth experiences, Jeanne-Marie was troubled by the rising c-section rates, stories of birth trauma, high rates of medical intervention in birth, and overall fear and inadequacy felt by women with regard to our innate ability to give birth. Jeanne-Marie found the BirthWorks philosophy to be a perfect fit with her own beliefs about birth and women. Following a two year course of study, she completed certification in July 2013 and is now offering classes year round in a variety of formats to accommodate the needs of her students.
