The Caves – Jamaica

On Negril’s main road, entering the Caves feels like stumbling upon a seaside hideout. That’s exactly what hotel group Island Outposts sought to create when building its most romantic collection of 12 thatched cabins and villa on a 10-acre Cliffside lot. The Caves hosts spirited couples who come for the 20-foot limestone cliffs, secret sea caves, candlelit suppers and the oceanfront Aveda spa, which means it’s an oasis apt for doing little else than swimming, sunbathing and sipping on a glass of rum-and-ting.
The all-inclusive rate covers three meals daily, unlimited drinks (including alcohol) and non-motorized sports. Having a mini-snack of home-baked banana cake and Jamaican coffee on the cabin’s private veranda. Waking up with an outdoor shower, Full-body massages in the petite Aveda spa ocean-view bungalow, Rooms don’t have TVs (though the hotel can accommodation those who are desperate), and Grown-ups only. The nearest Sandy Beach is approximately 7 minutes drive from the hotel. It is the 7 mile beach that is very popular in Negril. The best way to get there is by a taxi, which is readily available at the hotel. The mosquitoes can be lethal at night — be sure to close the net at night. The two-bedroom cottages’ only air conditioning consists of a plug-in fan; it can get steamy at night.
Activities: Drink. Local hangout Ricks Café (just a few minutes away) & those with brave souls can jump its 35-foot platform straight into the sea. Bake. Sometimes only a stretch of white sand will do. Negril’s famous Seven-Mile Beach is just down the road, parasailing and deep sea fishing excursions can be set up. Party. The island goes into street party mode during the yearly reggae and Soca festival, the Bacchanal Jamaica (February 10 to April 15). Swim. You can grab a free kayak and snorkel gear at the hotel and explore the nearby reefs. Expect to spot sea horses, eagle rays and, if you’re lucky, a green sea turtle. Ride. Saddle up and explore Paradise Park, 1,900 acres of pristine beach and rolling pasture.
