Working in a variety of media, from the traditional to the more unusual and innovative, these artists explo

re contemporary reality through site-specific installation, with particular emphasis on conceptual and identity-based painting, photography, video and performance work. It is Scaramouche’s mission to introduce artists from around the globe, often premiering their first U.S. In addition to showing the work of gallery artists, Scaramouche regularly produces group exhibitions comprised of diverse artists representing a broad range of work.

Jonathan VanDyke, ”The Hole in the Palm of Your Hand”
Sept. 12-Nov. 1, 2009
In his first solo exhibition with Scaramouche, VanDyke transformed the gallery space creating a container for his minimalist sculptures which dripped paint for the duration of the show, changing shade each day. Rupture is a key motif of VanDyke’s work - form ruptured by formlessness, the solid ruptured by the liquid, the familiar by the unlikely. As the ground underfoot builds up with a startlingly vibrant muck, the exhibition constantly re-makes itself.

’Hypnagogia’ a term coined by French scholar Alfred Maury defines the transitional state between sleep and awakening...and a particular kind of dream image, often characterized by the phantasmic persistence of repetitive activities and visions that leave an impression on our subconscious.

Described as an effective utopic space, a place of reformatting social conventions, Foucault defined a heterotopia as "elsewhere" and "other" - marginalized, peripheral, isolated yet also open.
