Well another eruption is brewing around the area of Grindavík and the Blue Lagoon. This is likely to occur in the next week or so. Expect some disruption in travel if you intend to visit that area in the next 3 weeks. Simular eruption is expected as the last 9 with some lava flow but otherwise not much danger except to infrastructure in the area and the town itself. Defensive walls have been reinforced around those areas and will hopefully hold.

Well as always the ground here is moving and this time it´s around an area called Bárðarbunga, which just so happens to be one of the most active volcanic sites in Iceland. There is a possibility of eruption in that area at this time but it could be 6 months to a year for anything to really go off. If and when it does expect glacial flooding and a possible delay in airtraffic if the eruption is under an icesheet as it will cause explosive eruptions for atleast the first part of the eruption.

A geophysics professor notes that the earthquake swarm in Bárðarbunga resembles those caused by magma intrusions. He says that an eruption within the caldera itself would likely result in a glacial flood.

Well the 10th eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula started last night, it´s not a large one with the rift beeing around 3 km in length. The eruption is north of Grindavík and doesnt threaten the town at this time. Plumbing to run hotwater is in danger and might burst which could lead to lack of hotwater in the area but otherwise it looks like another meandering lava flow that will last most likely 2 weeks or so.

Due to Glacial flood, Ring road (1) is closed between Vík and Kirkjubæjarklaustur. The road has been damaged but work is underway. Öldufellsleið F232 and Sólheimajökulsveg (221) have been closed. Due to this traffic on the south coast east bound or west will have to choose alternate travel routes for the next few days as the flood passes and the bridge can be inspected for damage.
