Busy day! We left London this morning for Canterbury, then took a ferry to the port of Calais. Now we're in the beautiful Normandy region with plans to see the impressive - and humbling - sites of the D-Day invasions tomorrow. Salut, France!

Well, it took 6 days, but Grace finally ended up in prison. The Doge's Prison in Venice, in fact.

Our last day in Italy saw glass-blowing, walks on the beach, and even a gondola ride. Venice was beautiful, but it's time to move on to the Alps tomorrow. Innsbruck and Munich... here we come! Caio, Italia!

Who could ask for a better lunch spot? After a late night -- at the Disco! -- we set off for more adventure in the capital of the Renaissance... Florence! Though we had to say goodbye, we quickly found ourselves voyaging through the Appenines and on to Jesolo, a tiny town near Venice. Despite cooler temperatures, the majority of the group decided it was worth it for a quick dip in the Adriatic... Brrrr! Tomorrow it's on the Venice! What adventures will we find?

Caio! Sorry for the late update, but our last hotel didn't have the most reliable wi-fi. Yesterday we said good-bye to Roma, but not before a visit to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Then it was off to the beautiful Assisi. We just arrived in Florence where more adventures await!

Day Two! After exploring the depths of San Clemente, we picnicked on the ruins of the Circo Maximo (Circus Maximus). Then it was on to The Vatican (no Pope sightings) and then a pizza dinner. We had a late return home --though only the grown-ups seem tired out. Tomorrow it's on the the heart of Imperial Rome... the Colosseum! And did someone mention a disco?

We're here! We're exhausted! But hey, we have gelato...

After a long ride, we finally arrived in Rome to meet our amazing tour director, Filomena. Despite our jetlag and general exhaustion, we still managed to visit the Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and the incredible Pantheon. Now it's off to bed to rest up for tomorrow's big adventure... The Vatican!

I guess I should probably update this, huh?

Italy, Austria, and Germany in 2017!

Back in the states (and happy to not be seeing snow!). A tremendous thank you to everyone that was involved in this year's trip. It was an overwhelmingly positive experience and an absolute honor to spend time with such amazing people.

Check back soon for lots of pictures (including where you can post your own) and -- of course! -- upcoming information about next year's trip!

Just arrived in Heathrow, and just about to board the plane to Newark. We'll be state-side soon... expect updates!

05/04/2015

Yesterday was a whirlwind tour of Athens, an ancient city that once served as one of the most powerful states in Greece. We had plenty of time for shopping and came home for a refreshing -- albeit freezing -- dip in the Aegean Sea (even Richmond went in... though later regretted it... it was only 58 degrees yesterday!).

Last night and this morning was certainly bittersweet. While we're ready to see friends and family, saying goodbye to our friends from Canada was certainly hard. Today, too, will be sad to say goodbye to Europe. Who knows, though: what adventures will next year bring?

JUST A REMINDER... parents will be contacted by phone as soon as we arrive in Newark. We'll see you soon in Watkins Glen!

The words "Know Thyself" once graced the mighty temple of Apollo at Delphi -- center of the Greek world and home of the Oracle. After breakfast, we beat the crowds to see this amazing site and explore the ruins still found there -- even after almost 2000 years. Then it was on to Athens for a brief introduction before a delicious gyro dinner. Tomorrow we'll take to Athens again for a guided bus tour and the exploration of the acropolis -- the center of religious and political life in ancient Athens -- and some last-minute shopping of course...

Unfortunately, tomorrow is our last day in Europe! Check back tomorrow for few last minute updates about our return trip. We'll be home soon!

Sorry I didn't post this earlier, but you can also take a look at our tour diary to see even more of our adventures!

Yikes! No Wi-Fi connections for the past few days... Let me try and bring everybody up to speed...

Tuesday we travelled from Rome to Naples and boarded a ferry for the beautiful island of Capri. While choppy waters didn't sit well with many (myself included!) we finally made it to our destination and were amazed by its beauty. We ended the day with a wood-working demonstration (beautiful in-laid designs!) and the picturesque town of Sorrento.

Wednesday was an early trip to Pompeii, a fascinating Roman city that was frozen in time after a volcanic explosion in 79 CE. From there, it was a long trek to Brandisi on the Ionian Sea. There, we boarded our ferry and were surprised by outstanding accommodations (though disappointed at needing to say "Arrivederci" to beautiful Italy...)! The time on the boat allowed for lots of relaxation, and our group was able to make some great friends with the group from Winnepeg. For many, the gentle rocking of the boat allowed for the best night's sleep of the whole trip.

Today involved a bit more overseas travel, but we finally arrived in the Greek port at Patras. From there, it was a leisurely trip though breathtaking landscape (including an outstanding and authentic Greek lunch!) and on to Delphi. Here, we were able to have lots of shopping time, so many of our bags may be a bit heavier on the way home. Tomorrow, we'll be heading to the ancient sites of Delphi -- including the temple of the famous Oracle -- before leaving for out final stop in Athens. Can it be?

Only two more days before we return home?

Bella Roma! A fast-paced and exciting (and, of course, exhausting) day... the Vatican and Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum... not enough time for only one day! The groups even split up with some travelling on to the famed Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain, while others crawled through the crypt of San Clemente with Mr. Richmond. We'll be turning in soon. It's an early morning drive to Naples and then a ferry to the island of Capri.

29/03/2015

This morning was a whirlwind tour of beautiful art and romantic architecture in the impressive city of Florence. Then it was a surprise stop in San Gimignano, a quaint medieval town built in the picturesque Tuscan hills. After a late dinner, we're turning in. We have a busy day tomorrow in the Eternal city and capital of countless empires... Rome!

We've had a few issues in the internet availability department, but I can assure you... we're doing well! If you haven't heard from your traveler within the next few hours, let me know (we finally got Wi-Fi, which now ranks alongside water, shelter, and oxygen as far as a basic human need...).

28/03/2015

In Milano... all present and accounted for! After a few hours of seeing the lovely sites of Milan itself, we're now just waiting for this other group. Then it's off to Firenze (Florence), our first hotel, and a good night of rest. Some of us are running on little more than an hour or two of sleep, the excitement of a new adventure, and coffee (for some of us, more coffee than others...).

Tomorrow is our tour of Florence... Arrivederci!

(Oh... and don't forget to take a look at Luca's tour diary later tonight. Pictures should be on there, too...)
