9 reasons why the Brihadeeswara Temple in Tamil Nadu, is one of the greatest structures ever built.

1. The Mandir is built using the interlock method where no cement, plaster or adhesive was used between the stones. It has survived 1000 years and 6 earthquakes.

2. The Mandir tower at 216 feet was likely the tallest in the world at the time.

3. The other structures built using this method Big Ben and Leaning Tower of Pisa are tilting with time. The Mandir which is far older has zero degree inclination.

4. 130,000 tons of granite was used to build the Mandir which was transported by 3000 elephants from 60 kms away

5. The Mandir was constructed without digging the earth. There was no foundation dug for the Mandir!

6. The Kumbham at the top of the Mandir tower weighs 80 tons and is monolithic. Yes monolithic! Craved from a single stone

7. Several theories exist as to how the 80 ton stone piece got atop the 200+ feet tower. Some suggest the use of levitation technology, but the more plausible explaination seems to be the use of elephants to pull the stone piece across a nearly 6 km long ramp.

8. It is said that several underground passages exist below the Mandir, most of whichwere sealed off centuries ago. It is said that these underground passages were safety traps and exit points for the Cholas. Some souces put the count of these passages to 100

9. The Mandir is so remarkable that some people go the the extent of saying that it was built by aliens. There is nothing quite like the Brihadeeswara Mandir and there will never be something quite like it. Raja Raja Chola was a visionary. We must treasure this timeless marvel.

यह मंदिर कर्नाटक राज्य के हासन ज़िले के बेलूर नामक ऐतिहासिक स्थान पर स्थित हैं।
#यहमंदिरक़रीब900वर्षपुरानाहैं। इस मंदिर का निर्माण होयसल वंश के राजा विष्णुवर्धन द्वारा 1106 से 1117 के बीच करवाया गया था। 1104 में युद्ध जीतने की ख़ुशी में विष्णुवर्धन ने इस मंदिर का निर्माण कार्य शुरू करवाया जो की 1117 में पूरा हुआ।

पुराने दिनों के दौरान, यह "द्वारसमुद्र" के रूप में जाना जाता था, जिसका अर्थ है "समुद्र का द्वार"।

इस मंदिर की कई जगाह इतनी महीन शिल्पकारी है कि जिसे सामान्य आंखों से देख पाना ना मुमकिन है उसे देखने समझने के लिए मेग्नीफाइन ग्लॉस की जरूरत होती है सोचिये ये उस 10वी 11वी सदी के कारीगरों ने बनाया कैसे होगा जबकि मेग्नीफाईन ग्लास की खोज 1296 में इंग्लैंड में हुई है।

आधुनिक दुनिया मे होली की पिचकारी की खोज और पेटेंट 1896 का है पर इस मंदिर के शिल्पों में 10वी 11वी सदी में ही होली में पिचकारी का उपयोग करते हुवे शिल्प है जिन्हें हाली ही में खोजा गया है

Jalakandesvarar (Siva) temple is located inside the Vellore fort, Vellore, Tamilnadu.

It was built in 1550 CE by Vijayanagara king Sadasivaraya.

The Jalakandesvarar Temple is a fine example of Vijayanagara Architecture - it’s replete with exquisitely carved Gopurams, Mandapams, pillars, and sculptures. The temple has mammoth wooden (entry) doors and large praakarams around.

The temple also has a stunning Kalyana Mandapa (wedding hall) that’s gem of a creation, with high levels of ornamentation consisting of dragons, horses, yalis and people.

The temple stands as a testimony to the art and architectural prowess of Vijayanagara times.

Kopeshwar Temple is at Khidrapur, Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
It was built in the 12th century by Shilahara king Gandaraditya between 1109 and 1178 CE. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is to the east of Kolhapur, ancient & artistic on the bank of the Krishna river.
The entire temple is divided into four parts Swargamandapam, Sabhamandapam, Antaral kaksha and Garbha griha.The Swargamandapam has a vestibule with an open top. The sanctum is conical. The exterior has stunning carvings of deities and secular figures. Elephant statues sustain the weight of the temple at the base. ln the interior we first see Vishnu and Shivaling facing north. Separate Actor-Pendal also called as swarga mandap, hall, old pillars, carvings of gods & male and femnale artists in various poses are attractive. The ceiling is semi-circular with rnatchless engravings. On the out side, complete 'Shivaleelamrit' is carved. The ceiling is semi-circular with matchless engravings. Inside there is statue of Vishnu and Shivling "Kopeshwar " facing north. Separate Actor-Pendal, hall, old pillars, carvings of gods & male-female artists in various poses are attractive. This is the only Shiva temple in India with idol of Vishnu.
