Coronavirus Update from Portugal
John Hogan, ASI SUP Instructor from Zen SUP in Algarve, Portugal gives us this update. We can surf / SUP again as individuals for 90mins as long as there is 4metres between each person. It’s a start.

Portugal has, overall, dealt with the outbreak quite well, especially in the Algarve and with quite limited resources. The willingness of people to self-isolate from the getgo was quite amazing. People were informed, afraid but resolute in their decision to follow the rules.

Of course all activities shut down, hotels, restaurants (take away only), all schools closed & public offices (email & phone service only), banks, supermarkets and hardwares remained open.

Over Easter and again on 1st May, people are allowed to travel only within their own council jurisdiction, which meant the Algarve was spared a huge influx of northern holiday home owners for the holiday week.

Brave new world, who would have thought that we would be facing down such a hidden terror during 2020 and it seems that we may not be fully through it yet. Throws a whole new light on how we live, travel and do business.

In speaking with a lot of people it has really shaken up people’s priorities and given us all time to reflect on what's important.

Eighteen months ago, we launched Scotland's only autism surf school, but it shouldn't be autism only. Since then, we've been making our surf school inclusive to everyone, regardless of disability or condition.

We're stoked to announce 'surfABLE Scotland', a project under Friendly Access and supported by Riding High, which will launch into action THIS YEAR!

We will be the only adaptive surf school in Scotland and we are fund raising like crazy to increase our adaptive surf equipment, which needs to be custom made. We would love to have you 'on board', helping us raise the vital funds we need. So if you're thinking of a charity to support, please give Friendly Access 'surfABLE Scotland' a thought.

PHILIPPINES. Bohol. See exotic locations and obtain your ASI SUP Instructor qualifications. Workshops will be held at this amazing location at Loboc, Valladolid, Bohol (near Tabgilaran Airport) on 28 February – 3 March 2017. We are conducting SUP Instructor Level 1 & Level 2, SUP Water Rescue & SUP Wise for Instructors Foundations skills workshops.

ASI SUP Instructor courses cover the essential skills to deliver SUP lessons and activities with confidence and safety.

Learn about managing risks, laws, managing groups of clients, lessons plans and structure, instructional techniques for different water location types, SUP paddling techniques, video analysis to assess technique and coach to improve performance, as well as suitable equipment for clients, SUP school operations, key rescue skills for instructors and how to deliver the ASI SUP Wise program for your clients.

Level 1 Enclosed Flat Water covers flat water conditions and locations and Level 2 Exposed Waters is for instructing in coastal locations and large bodies of water that uneven waters.

Bohol is an island located in central Philippines, only 1 hour and 15 minutes flying time from Manila. It is one of most beautiful places to visit in the Philippines. It is rich on rivers, mountains and white-sand beaches, crystal clear waters, numerous waterfalls and caves and an abundance of wildlife and birds. A large range of budget to luxury accommodation is nearby at excellent prices. After the workshops, you could explore the local area with its many attractions including the famous Chocolate Mountains.

AUSTRALIA. Enrol for ASI Level 1 and Level 2 SUP fitness Instructor workshops on 5-8 December 2015. Two workshop locations – Huskisson, Jervis Bay and Burleigh Gold Coast. Be trained up ready for summer. Get all the info, a library of modified fitness exercises and delivery plans to get you ready to deliver once you complete the training.

Level 1 covers risk management and safety, equipment, anchoring systems, a range of proven and tested SUP fitness exercises, and ASI SUP fitness session plans.

The Level 2 is more advanced and works with resistance bands and circuits with a range of resistance band exercises all slightly modified for the SUP board and a number of ASI SUP fitness session plans.
