For those who are interested in living, a few friends and I are holed up in my new place up in California’s Sonoma Country during the pandemic. Follow .california to see what we’re up to and how we are staying as self-sufficient as possible.
For the geeks out there, here are some of the specs:
- Timber milled from the land, walls are insulated with hay, and covered in plaster from the soil on the property
- 100% solar (72 kW of lithium-ion batteries with 17kW of solar)
- Water comes from our year-round creek and is stored in tanks totaling 35k gallons
- Internet is received by antenna from nearby cell phone towers
- The only thing that comes from the ‘grid’ besides the Internet is a 1k gallon propane tank
