The original cow co-op is a group of caring individuals who came to the aid of myself and my steers when I was unable to afford to feed them through winter of 2010. Having come to the realisation that my land could no longer support the number of animals grazing it I reluctantly decided to send the steers to market. Given their age and weight I was advised to send them directly to the meatworks. O
ne had also developed a cancer in his eye and would need to be slaughtered for pet food. My steers had not had a lot of handling and were unlikely to be easily loaded onto a truck. They were not ear tagged and I felt it was a real possibility that their behaviour would lead to them being roughly treated. I decided to fully investigate the process they would experience from paddock to death. The results of my research led me to found the cow co-op.
