Library of Tibetan Works and Archives Overview
The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA) is one of the most important libraries of Tibetan works across the world. It was founded by His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, in June 1970.

The festival is celebrated in the summer, from the 15th to the 24th of the 5th lunar month - usually about the middle of August, after a month's retreat by the monks who stay within their monasteries to avoid walking on the emerging summer insects and killing them.
It began in the 16th century with a banquet given by the lay people for the monks featuring yoghurt. Later on, summer operas, or Lhamo, and theatricals were added to the festivities. The operas, "last all day with clashing cymbals, bells and drums; piercing recitatives punctuating more melodious choruses; hooded villains, leaping devils, swirling girls with long silk sleeves. In the past dancers came from all over Tibet, but today there is only the state-run Lhasa Singing and Dancing Troupe
The beautiful grounds of the Norbulingka are filled with partying groups shielded from the wind by gaily colored hanging walls of rugs and printed canvas. There is much feasting and visiting between family groups and bonfires are common at night.
The Shoton Festival has become a comprehensive celebration that influences the culture of Tibet. It is a great occasion for both Tibetans and tourists. It has also become a market time, and a time for competitions, performances and entertainment. Attending the festival gives visitors a special feel for Tibet and its culture
The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), the premier institute for Tibet's unique artistic heritage of opera, dance, and music, is gearing up to host the 20th Tibetan Opera (Shoton) festival. The festival is slated to begin 27 March, with an opening ceremony that will be graced by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and will run until 5 April.
The First Grand Shoton Opera Festival was organized in exile in 1993, and had only five opera troupes from various settlements. Over the years, the festival has grown in prominence both in scale and quality. This year 12 troupes of performers from India and Nepal will be contributing to the festival, presenting opera from various traditional folklores, including Nangsa Woebum, Sukyi Nyima, Drowa Sangmo and more.
