Now that’s a tight squeeze!!!
This river crossing might seem unassuming, but on the other side of those logs is a 30 foot ravine into the mountain side. 😂💪 The way back we couldn’t even see the logs because the water level rose so much. 🙈

While seeking out an unknown backcountry trek, we ended up on the gnarliest and most dangerous off road route of our trip.
We decided to drive further up the remanentes of a road just beyond a big river crossing to see how far we could go. White knuckled and under pressure, we crossed 7 rivers and a handful of very sketchy old log bridges along the way. Any mistake could have cost us the van rolling down a cliff edge.
After the last steep and stressful river crossing Colin threw in the towel and we found a rad camp spot where we planned to start the trek the next day.
Overnight, Patagonia delivered a huge rainfall and snow storm; much bigger than forecasted. We woke in the morning to swollen rivers, waterfalls that popped up overnight and more rain on the way.
The 7 white knuckle river crossings were now more life threatening. The log bridges that were above water before are now underwater and we couldn’t see any of the tracks we took the day before because of how much water was flowing.
Just to give some perspective, the last river out was over a meter deep and on the drive in it was only 6 cm deep!! One of the locals we saw collecting firewood on the other side said we are lucky we came out when we did otherwise we might have been stuck until next summer!!
Needless to say our expected backpacking trip ended up being a wild ride and one we hope not to repeat on this journey again!!
Glad to report the only casualties are a crushed front bumper and trim piece. In hindsight we are bummed we don’t have any footage on the way out, but instamedia shots were not really at the forefront of our minds. 🤯

When beetles attack! Volume up; commentary is good golden. Not sure if it’s as funny to others as us, but we’re still laughing. This beetle was easily 5”(13cm) long and flew straight in Lucia’s face.

Paracas, Peru. Words fall short when trying to describe this place.
Post surf shredding at Chicama. Colin rode this @carverskate till his feet were raw.

Happy thanksgiving to our friends and family up north! We are chilling in the Southern Hemisphere today. We encountered some penguins 🐧 in the wild and they are adorable and incredibly curious!!

Doesn’t watching them bring the biggest pengrin to your face?! 😂

We spent a couple of really hot days down in the hills in central Santander fossil hunting and look what we found!
🐚
We asked the mine engineers where we should go to look for fossils and they directed us to an old dried up river bed. We hiked all day in the blazing heat finding little treasures mixed in with the rocks and sand of the river bed and then we saw this big guy just barely peaking out of the wall in one section. We decided to dig it out and see if it was whole. It took a good hour or two to get it out of the wall and it surely is a beauty to behold.
Incredible that it was alive at some point in history (we’re still trying to pinpoint when exactly) and that it grew to be that big!! It easily weighs 30 pounds and well you can see it’s almost 2 feet wide. It’s an ammonite, but in our brief research we can’t tell you which one. Such a cool treasure!
Out of the sun and into the mud. We’re in the rainy season in the Sierra Nevadas de Santa Marta and the roads are messy! 🤪
Oh that moment you get to drive your rig out of the container and to see that everything is OK is the best feeling ever! Do our fellow #overlanders agree? 👏👏
So it finally happened! Peso is loaded and embarking on her second sea voyage. This time to Cartagena!

Let me tell you we really did not think we were going to get out of Guate. Why? Well after 2 canceled scheduled shipments from Guate and Honduras over the last 5 weeks, a failed... no bailed (we bailed because they wanted our van with the keys for 3 days inside the port...they said there are cameras so it safe. Haha in that case security is an illusion not a guarantee) journey to Honduras to ship Peso from Puerto Cortes, a mean bout of food poisoning the day we had to load Peso in Santo Tomas, a 5 hour delayed broken down bus on the way back to Guatemala City, and lastly the airlines in Guate refusing to let us on board without a purchased return ticket; we just didn’t think it was going to happen.

It’s been real folks. We should be excited and stoked to finally get to South America, but the past few weeks have definitely challenged the wind in our sails. Once we have our feet on the ground in South America and Peso in our possession, Expedition Peso will continue full of stokes and amazing adventures. 🏄🏽♀️🌎🧗🏻♂️🏕🏔
Just a little ‘in-tents’ action to get you excited for the weekend!
What are ya’ll doing for the holiday weekend?
We’re about to witness the descension of over one million people into the city of Antigua. 😬 Thus the reason Peso’s brake upgrade project has been put on hold; at least until after this craziness departs on Monday.
Giant snake!
That one time on your jungle walk you bump into a 9-10ft snake. Holy sh*t! The commentary is quiet, but golden.
Can you see Peso? She’s down there 👇 somewhere!
This crag called La Bufa near Guanajuato is stunning!! Colin cleaning a new very chossy route set by our friends @yodelatefuen and @claugb_vs 🙌🙌
Crater Rim Traverse Nevado de Toluca
Thirteen kilometers later... We conquered the crater rim traverse all above 14,500 feet of class 3-5 scrambles. We submitted three peaks above 15,000 feet with the highest at 15,400. Amazing!
Amazing Volcano Climb
Acclimating on Nevado de Toluca to hike the traverse around the crater at 15,342 feet!
