Sushi made so meticulous, that each piece is carefully curated and broken down by chosen temperature of the rice (the Shari) according to fat content of each fish, chosen temperature of each piece of fish itself (the netta), varying types of wasabi, and even the pressure at which each piece is molded into a perfect bite. Truly amazed every time I come here.

(Second photo is last nights menu broken down by all of these painstaking details).

Eating a meal at Julia is an opportunity to taste true harmony. .nao is a joyful and beautiful human who invigorates every one of her dishes with love and grace - and you can taste that. Rarely do I find myself saying “wow” after every bite, but here, it happens. Every menu that Nao creates is deeply thought out, in order to showcase Japan’s best seasonal ingredients. She is proud of her roots and rightfully so. It’s so refreshing to see a female chef command the stage here in Tokyo. But of course, she’s doesn’t even take the full spotlight, giving credit to every single person who contributes to her meals, from the farmers, to the pottery artists, the winemakers, and even the salt makers!!! This nod to each craftsperson really gives pause to appreciate all the hard work that goes into every meal. I love and cannot recommend it enough! Go say hello to Chef Nao and enjoy the culinary journey she takes you on, because you will not regret it!

Asked my friend if we could do crepes for brunch, he was worried they’d be the ones from Harajuku 😂
He should know me better than that! Needless to say, our brunch was delicious! These are the real deal savory French buckwheat galettes straight from Brittany, but using all fresh Japanese ingredients. This also happens to be the same famous shop that has locations all over France!

Bet you didn’t think there was such a thing as an insanely delicious muffuletta sando right here in Tokyo, did you!? Well guess what, there is!

Chef Nagano actually makes his own bread and ham in house, marbled with the softest buttery fat marbling that melts in your mouth with each bite.

Finished off perfectly with a side of homemade pickles and homemade chips.

If you enjoy dim sum, answer this… Have you ever seen a turnip cake this sexy? Or a singular xiao long bao so perfect? What about a simple succulent lamb dumpling full of juicy delights?

Seriously, Japan does Chinese food better than anyone. Always elegant, always clean, always pristine.

It’s a bit hard suggesting a cuisine that is not Japanese on a private tour, but if you do a multi day option, its a great opportunity to squeeze in a few “outside the box” cuisines like we did on tonights special little food tour.

Sakura season is on its way and strawberry season is here!
Today’s food trip in Ginza featured delicate Sakura mochi, melt-in-your-mouth strawberry daifuku mochi, a delectable Wagyu katsu sando, a rare whiskey tasting, and some artisanal coffee for good measure.

Came home for the holidays with an extra suitcase full of sake for some VIP guests - Tonight I took those bottles over to their house and hosted a special sake tasting for their Hanukkah party.

Everyone went crazy over the sake and needless to say, the tasting was a smash hit!

If you’re in the LA area and interested in having a sake tasting party for you and your loved ones, please feel free to send a message.

Happy Hanukkah to everyone celebrating! 🕎

Move over cookies! Unlike many western nations, where Christmas is centered around candy canes and gingerbread cookies, in Japan, cake reigns supreme.

Beautiful layers of white cream adorning a fluffy cake with plump strawberries atop has long been the image of Japanese Christmas confectionary and it all started in 1922 when the owner of a now famous patisserie called Fujiya decided to sell Christmas cakes.

While stateside, patisserie owner, Fujii Rinemon, had eaten a dessert called strawberry shortcake, composed of two scones filled with cream and fresh strawberries. Fujii was fascinated but felt that the crunchy scones would not be well suited to the Japanese palate. Instead, he chose to make his shortcake out of a sponge cake, drawing on the ever-fashionable castella cake, another local interpretation on western (this time Portuguese) dessert which emerged in the late 1500s. His resulting creation, using the fresh cream and strawberries of the American shortcake, but atop a soft spongy cake, was the first strawberry shortcake sold in Japan and it’s now more popular than ever at Christmastime.

Hoping everyone had a wonderful Christmas! What desserts did you enjoy this year!??

Today was a specially curated private tour for a hardcore vintage watch enthusiast and a photography focused vintage camera lover to shop at some real hidden gems for vintage watches and cameras.

Of course we had to start the morning off with a fun snack…

Photo’d here is Imakawa-Yaki.
Its similar to a flufiy pancake/donut sandwich filled with azuki red bean paste... but at this specialty shop, there were many other fun fillings such as cream cheese, a savory sausage one, and apple cream.

We covered a ton of ground today so there was no time for any other photos, but I did manage to get a snap of one of the most stunning watches I’ve ever seen!
😍🤑

Such a fun day! 📸🕰️👜

Handmade soba doesn’t get any better than this!

On tonight’s food tour, we went to my ultimate favorite soba spot. They serve this unique rendition of a tsuke dipping soba, similar to a rich ramen soup made of pork bone broth and black pepper. Add a bit of lemon and the whole thing just sings in your mouth!

As you approach the end of your meal, they bring in some soba-yu (hot water the soba was cooked in), which you add to the dipping sauce and enjoy it as a soup. Perfection!

Have you ever seen such a beautiful piece of tamago sushi?!?

Tonight’s omakase course was full of surprises. Everything from the aka g*i (red clam), to the seasonal buri (which I didn’t even take a picture of because I ate it so fast) was incredible.

Also worth mentioning is Chef Yuta - the sweetest guy who made our experience so special.

Chef and I discussed fun ways to offer a sushi making experience combined with a beautiful omakase course so that you can enjoy both a hands on experience along with a delicious meal.

If you’re interested in this during your next trip to Japan, please feel free to send a DM!

Not sure I’ve ever been handed a dessert menu that was 90% gelato - all of which were exceedingly creative concoctions and all of which, I needed to try!

Working backwards from dessert…
1. a mascarpone gelato with fresh strawberries and rose over an airy sponge cake, which ate like princess food
2. hojicha gelato topped with persimmon compote which ate like a sweet earth bomb
3. Fried Lily bulb croquette in a basil and hairy crab soup.
4. Exceptional Chardonnay from La Morra
5. Buttery al dente handmade pasta with matsutake mushrooms, and pancetta
6. A very elegant orange wine from Follia
7. Fried polenta bites
8. The Dolce menu in all its perfection

Tonight’s meal at .tokyo was exactly what we needed…
Comforting, oh so satisfying, and so enjoyable. Not only amazing food, but the cutest and sweetest staff that made us feel all the warm fuzzies on a very cold night 💕

Presenting Italian cuisine from Milan, Altar Ego has made an impact not only in its neighborhood of Jimbocho, but all over Japan. The restaurant is owned by a famous and extremely successful chef, Yoju Tokuyoshi, who is the first-ever Japanese person to earn a Michelin star for his restaurant in Italy. It’s little wonder that his restaurant here in Tokyo was also awarded a Michelin star as well.

Last weekend’s food trip to Kyoto was full of exquisite dinner courses lasting for hours and grandiose sights of fall foliage.
