Bulgarian Yogurt/ Kiselo Mlyako
Bulgarian Yogurt/ Kiselo Mlyako is unique, worldwide famous fermented milk product. Since the antiquity it has been considered a food that sustains the human health , beauty and life longevity.
The ancient Thracians observed that the fermented milk exhibits better endurance compare to the fresh one. By adding fermented milk to boiled fresh milk they obtained a product known as “prokish” or “kvaseno mliako”. The regular and continuous preparation of “kvaseno mliako” resulted in the natural selection of the two lactic acid bacteria of Bulgarian Yogurt/ Kiselo Mlyako – Lactobacillus Bulgaricus.
In the early 1900s, while working at: the University of Geneva, the young Bulgarian scientist Dr Stamen Grigorov found the agent causing Bulgarian yogurt fermentation- known as Lactobacillus Bulgaricus.
It is considered that the Bulgarian Yogurt/ Kiselo Mlyako strengthens the immune system and helps prevent tumor growth, producing cancer-suppressing compounds. The Bulgarian Yogurt/ Kiselo Mlyako has been credited with having a number of healthy effects on the human body, including: reducing cholesterol, reducing unhealthy bacteria in the gastro-intestinal tract, increasing calcium levels thus helping against osteoporosis.

Incredibly beautiful golden wreath from a rich burial of Thracian Odrysian aristocrat. It is discovered in the Big Tumulus, Yambol Region, Bulgaria, mid-4th century BC. That artefact you may see at National History Museum in Sofia. The Thracians lived on Bulgarian lands during 2nd –1st millennium BCE. Thracians and Trojans both belonged to the ‘Old culture’ and fought together against the Greek tribes. In Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, the Thracian kings are described as semi-gods in the possession of magnificent gold and silver. Orpheus, the most famous of all Thracian heroes, was most probably born in the Rhodope Mountains in nowadays Bulgarian lands, and one can feel his impact on spiritual practices, art and culture. It is estimated that he lived in the 13th century BCE at the end of the Bronze Age. Orpheus lived in the times of Moses and five centuries before Homer. Many explorers claim that Orpheus was a real historic figure who lived a generation before the Trojan War. According to Aristophanes Orpheus was famous for his initiation in the mysteries and his telling people to reject homicide. Orpheus was a preacher for brotherhood among people.
