Watch out when booking a hotel even if it is on a reputable website. Some hotels do not tell you if a room is smoking or non-smoking but tell you upfront you cannot cancel once booked. Only after booking does the hotel tell you that the kind of room you wanted is not available. In the books of Yaytravel, this is a scam to make money at the expense of the traveller. Yaytravel has written to two of the major Internet booking companies to ask them if they can help travellers by changing the way listings appear on their sites.

Some tourism marketing ideas are not great. Then there are some that are evil. Several years ago, the authorities in Yulin, China, decided to attract tourists by having thousands of dogs and cats massacred and then eaten. Massacred means: boiled alive, violently beaten to death and more. Please sign a petition asking the Chinese authorities to stop the cruelty started in the name of tourism. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/441/776/138/end-yulin-dog-meat-eating-festival/

Each June, thousands of dogs are slaughtered in a Chinese festival. Sign the petition to stop the massacre! (1151616 signatures on petition)

I live in a country where there is a lot of crime and people do not trust one another. Imagine my shock when I went to Copenhagen and someone offered to help me. I immediately thought "What does this person want? Do they want to hurt me?" In Denmark, however, things are very different from where I live. It was quite a positive culture shock for me.

I have also scared the living daylights out of people. I often offer complete strangers on planes, from passengers to flight attendants, my e-mail address to ask me for advice if I found out they are going somewhere that I know really well. I just want to help like the guy in Copenhagen that wanted to help me. He and I both sometimes freak people out.

It is funny and sad that we live in a world where we sometimes have to be so careful. It is wonderful too to know there are people like that man in Copenhagen on this planet - no hidden agenda, just a desire to help.

Yaytravel.com tries to help travellers partly by giving them a list of places of accommodation. A lot of places are difficult to find because they do not appear at the top of search engine listings or because they are new.

As a result, Yaytravel has given since its inception free listings to anyone that asks for it. This will help them and will help travellers. Unfortunately, lots of places do not list on Yay Travel because, understandably, they think there is some catch. There is none - some people in the world just want to help sometimes, and Yay Travel wants to help travellers and small entrepreneurs.

If you as a traveller know of a great place where you have stayed, it would be appreciated if you could suggest to them they list for free on Yaytravel.com.

South African Airways and Emirates have joined a list of airlines that ban the transport of certain hunting trophies, such as lions and rhinos. Delta Airlines, according to an article at http://traveller24.news24.com/News/Airlines-send-SA-trophy-hunting-industry-into-tailspin-with-cargo-ban-20150514, is a major transporter of animal trophies and currently has no such ban. What do you think? Should Delta also introduce a ban?

SA is allegedly home to some of the most heinous smuggling scheme, says an expert, with airlines indirectly ensnared in endangered wildlife trafficking - as Emirates becomes the second airline in a month to ban trophy hunting cargo.
