Are your toggles easy to understand?

Confusing designs can leave users unsure whether a toggle is on or off.

On-off controls must clearly show both the current state and what will happen when users interact with them. Clear labels, strong visuals, and distinct states make toggles intuitive and frustration-free.

Well-crafted alt text is key to making web content accessible and usable. But not every image needs alt text, and knowing what to include depends on the image's purpose. Here are 3 steps to guide you:

1️⃣ Does the image communicate task-related information?

2️⃣ Does the image signify a function?

3️⃣ Can the image's message be described in 150 characters?

Did you know that adding alt text to every image might actually make life harder for screen-reader users? While sighted users can quickly scan decorative or redundant images, screen-reader users have to interact with each image individually, which can waste time and effort.

So, are we designing for compliance, or are we designing for people? 💭

Accessibility isn’t about checking a box; it’s about creating a truly user-centered experience. Learn why thoughtful context matters when it comes to alt text in our latest article by Tanner Kohler and Emma Cionca:

Using AI in research is not a one-size-fits-all solution. While AI tools can help speed up certain stages, such as planning and analysis, there are other stages where you should avoid using them entirely and rely on your expertise instead. Here are 4 tips to accelerate your workflow with AI:

1️⃣ Always ask AI to cite primary sources

2️⃣ Use tools specifically designed for info seeking (like Perplexity)

3️⃣ Provide the AI with a template for a starting point

4️⃣ When creating charts, ask the tool to follow data visualization best practices.

AI can draft summaries and create visuals, but it’s your expertise that brings meaning to the insights.

Confused users don’t convert. Poor category names can leave your audience lost and frustrated... but the fix is simpler than you think.

Great category names are:

1️⃣ Clear: Users should instantly know what’s inside.
2️⃣ Relatable: Speak their language, not industry jargon.
3️⃣ Straightforward: Skip the clever puns! They confuse more than they help.

Your labels shape your users’ experience. Are yours doing the job?

AI is revolutionizing UX research! Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned pro, AI can streamline your workflows when used effectively from planning, ideation, and analysis.

But how does GenAI actually work? 🤷 🤯

Well, in simple terms, let’s think of it as an advanced game of Mad Libs. Instead of trying to come up with a ridiculous word for a humorous effect, GenAI systems aim to provide a most likely response to your prompt based on context, grammar, word meanings, and a plethora of training data.

Ever zoomed into a concert photo on your phone to see the performer better? That’s direct manipulation (DM) in action!

DM lets users interact with objects directly—think pinch-to-zoom or drag-and-drop—but it’s not always perfect. Here’s what to keep in mind when designing with DM:

⚠️ Small screens = less room to interact
⚠️ Repetitive gestures = user fatigue
⚠️ Accessibility gaps = challenges for all users

Designing with DM means balancing these limitations to create seamless, inclusive experiences.
