🌄 Why is the Karoo a Global Paleontological Marvel?

The Karoo Basin, located in South Africa, is one of the world's most remarkable paleontological sites. Its extensive and nearly unbroken sedimentary record spans about 120 million years, from the late Carboniferous period through to the early Jurassic. This makes the Karoo an invaluable source of scientific knowledge about a vast and critical span of Earth's history. It's a window into a time when South Africa was part of the vast supercontinent Pangaea.

The Karoo Basin is renowned for its fossilized remains of a diverse array of animals, particularly therapsids, a group of mammal-like reptiles. These creatures are crucial in studying the evolution from reptiles to mammals.

The fossils found here include the ancestors of mammals, dinosaurs, and other reptiles, offering insights into the evolution of these major groups.

The basin also provides evidence of how life rebounded and ecosystems reestablished themselves after the Permian mass extinction, showcasing the resilience and adaptability of life!

🤯 Does this sound interesting to you?
Join us in uncovering the secrets of the Karoo in the Time Rewind Tour and witness the story of life's resilience and transformation.
