How Chinese invade our country?
First of all they provide us donations, grants, and loans for unnecessary unprofitable projects. Then we struggle to pay it back and they will give us so many terms and conditions to reduce the loans. If our loan amount is too high they will ask us to give them or sale them these projects for very cheaper price.
How Chinese enter the country?
• As tourists with one month tourist visa
• As businessmen with 3 months business visa
• As laborers
How they destroy our economy?
They enter the country as above mention ways. Then start small and medium scale business. Even some time BOI approved projects.
BOI and Sri Lankan Lawyers will help and introduce all the documents for them to open a company and will help them to avoid labor law, environment law, Tax, EPF, and ETF.
What type of business are they interested?
Tourism (Travel agents, Air ticketing agents, Translators, Drivers, Tour Leaders)
This is one of our main industries today completely controlled by Chinese. Few hundred thousand Chinese tourists visit Sri Lanka annually but 90% goes back to China due to our ignorance and lack of information.
Some tourists bring to Sri Lanka for five days tour under 130 $ per person
Tour Leader is Chinese, restaurant is Chinese, Buses are made in China,
All the shops are owned by Chinese or run by Chinese (Tea, Gem, Latex, Spices)
Air ticketing &Travel agency is owned by Chinese or run by Chinese.
Most of business income goes back to China in illegal ways with some sri lankan officials support.
When Sri Lankan travel agents earn 5$ profit margin with so much difficulties during Chinese New Year a China Agent do make about 2000-3000$.
They work with very uneducated people. Local guides who can’t find a job in local companies. They don’t provide accommodation properly for local guides. They don’t pay tips and salary properly .Local guides sleep in the bus while Chinese tour leaders run the show.
Almost every Sri Lankan Travel Agency offers unlimited credit facilities to Chinese travel agency.
Sri Lankan National guide lets Chinese tour leader to take almost more than 50% of sales commission.
Some years ago Sri Lanka did not have many license hold Chinese speaking guides but today we do. Many Chinese travel agencies and some of local travel agencies mislead minister, ministry and the country with the help of some of workers from tourist board.
They say Sri Lankan Chinese speaking guides are too expensive (Actually we are much cheaper than the other countries like India, Turkey, Russia, and Nepal.) And also they say we don’t speak good Chinese. This again is not true because most of us are graduate from top class Chinese universities.
Some say we do not have enough Chinese speaking guides. That’s is also not true. We do have enough.
Today one by one Sri Lankan own travel agencies close down the Chinese market and Chinese are opening new Chinese travel agency every few months. Very soon they will open Hotel chain and leisure parks .Then in our own country we are useless and helpless.
Restaurants and hotels (translators, waiters, Chef, cooks, cashiers, Helpers, restaurant Mangers)
Construction Projects (all type of labors, Translators, engineers, Managers, drivers, alders, machine operators, sub-contractors
Super market, mini super market, retails and whole sales shops
Illegal business (money laundry ,prostitutions, ci******es and liquors, illegal animal meet , skins, eggs , Gem and diamond, illegal herbs, credit cards, Ivory and wood from Africa and India ) , visa processing
Control our whole sales market, retail markets factory and basically entry economy.
Today no one can produce any products cheaper than China so our merchants go to China and bring all type of cheap Chinese products. Our factories begin to shut it down one by one.
Future Sri Lankan job market and business stability
As Chinese conquer Sri Lanka we will have to face many major problems in near future if we do not restrict our labor laws, immigration laws, Custom law, financial Law, civil law, and so on. Chinese can work round the clock and they are very good with making fake documents and fake items. The Sri Lankan government system is highly corrupted so they can make any document so easily. Today Chinese do all types of small scale business and it’s a threat for Sri Lankan small scale business and labor community. They serve for longer hours for less salary and it also will destroy local job opportunities (they work more for lower salary because basically everyone does some type of illegal business)
Construction and labor supply
China has world biggest well trained labor force. And China is not cheap country any more. They do need to find jobs for this huge labor force .Chinese government has funding billions of USD for third world countries for the development projects. One condition is part of the labors should come from China .This is understanding. What it happens in reality, most of these construction company bring much more larger Chinese labor force from China .Country like Sri Lanka never check about it .The contractors say they will bring high level experience experts mentioning there are lack of well training labors in Sri Lanka. But in reality, truck drivers, carpenters, welders, machine operators, masons, electrician all type of low level labors are also brought from China. Sri Lanka has so much unemployed youth around the country who can do these jobs but government don’t care. Because Chinese do pay them great deal of money under the table. Most of the time main contractor is someone who has connection with both country top level government officers and politician. Then he will give sub contract to another Chinese company who don’t have those connection and may be small part for local Companies.
They will bring labors form China. All the machinery from China. Materiel from China .Some Company even bring house hold items under the free tax benefits and sales in local market. We locals do have to pay back the loan. What kind of benefits this country and its people get out from these project if everything is going back to China. Late seventies we have many bank loans from European countries and very long grace period and very low interest rate .They bring only top class engineers from those country but they never bring machinery ,low level labor force or construction material from Europe.
Chinese Labor mafia and human smuggling
China has huge unemployed rate in countryside .They are going around the world in deferent ways finding jobs almost last 200 Years .Many Chinese are going to other countries in illegal ways . Arriving to Sri Lanka is very easy .They Come as a foreigner who has one month tourist visa then can be extend to another two times. Then these people are finding job in construction companies, restaurants, prostitution .Many people even do not get salary for few months may be few years because they have criminal records in Back homes .These human smuggling business is control by few Chinese people In Sri Lanka and it’s very difficult to Catch them because no one will speak against them or betrayal them. Also these laborers work much longer period for low salaries. They don’t go out at all. So most of Chinese are getting contracted by Sri Lankan government or even private companies because low price and Sri Lankan companies cannot do these project for this prices. These labors don’t pay any tax, no contract, no insurance, no Labor law or anything at all .Most of the time they are coming as a family .If we check many restaurants are run by family members.
