A hearty good day everyone no matter where you may be as we are pleased to announce that each week we shall be promoting local crafts and those who have such creative gifts. Thus opening new avenues and opportunities to ensure traditional crafts etc remain at the heart of the community.

Please note: we respectfully appreciate no unsolicited posts.

By embracing local craft makers this ensures a sustainable future for so many in our amazing area of Angus. Hopefully each will be able to respectfully reciprocate thereby opening up more opportunities overall for everyone.

We shall announce soon the first of many incredibly gifted artisans in their own right, and look forward to increasing footfall and visitors to The Glens.

In the meantime we welcome and embrace all visitors to Glenesk Folk Museum where many stories can be found and more.

Please visit our page for more forthcoming and exciting news as we extend our thanks for your generous support, that enables us to offer the ‘very best bespoke and unique guest experience’

Don’t imagine but experience in person the true heart of the Glen and community.

With kindest regards most respectfully from all at

These are the latest kilt hose to be finished as part of our project which creates authentic kilt hose, using updated antique patterns on a made to order basis.

The cream wool is from sheep living just a few miles away. The wool was shorn by Stuart and carded and handspun by Lisa at Lisa 2 Hats Studio. The hose were knitted by Julie Cave for Glenesk Folk Museum Café & Shop to raise funds for the Museum.

These are an authentic local product. The Shepherds Plaid pattern was seen as early as the 1600s in paintings showing highland dress.

You can find out more about our project in the latest edition of Yarn - The Journal of Scottish Yarns on page 038.

Let us gaun a mile more, as to stand as ne’er before
and gaze upon all we see, in such majesty and awe,

What awaits could lead us there, to pause a while in a moment to share, listen and hear of stories told, as old as time yet of today,

Let us go and step upon, the path before us, to momentarily lay our footsteps on, embrace with heart, and feel with our soul, the Glen’s many stories.

Here’s our hand we offer you, come, let us gaze upon the view, hear the call yet silent still, see the heather scattered o’er the hill, in all, all its vibrant glory

What Awaits?

We each enjoy listening to stories about Scotland and local areas, drama, battle, love, Jacobites, whisky and more.
Perhaps catching fleeting glimpses of incredible creatures, raptors and more, I see almost every day as you too can experience and gaze upon such outstanding beauty, as the heather clad glen bursts through and is lain before us as natures palette.
Here in this Glen o Glens there’s more to discover, discover soon and let us meet as who we are but fellow travelers upon life’s road.

Don’t imagine but experience in person.

Only with Bespoke Tours, as we offer a hearty Scottish welcome to one and all to Gkenesk

A rare, and remarkable tour...

A wee glimpse..

The Angus Glens

The Hidden Stories

Too, far too often in our humble opinion is Angus and its boundless history, flora, fauna and real stories, events bypassed and many who visit Scotland take, follow or are led upon the ‘ubiquitous, must see routes’

To each their own of course but why must Scottish tours begin at Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness? Of course as many consider the main gateway to the highlands and hence many tour companies are based there.
Yes, Edinburgh, auld reekie the capitol of Scotland, it has it all does it not?

Yet Angus offers the same and more, where in Edinburgh will you see highland coos, eagles, buzzards, red squirrel, red deer on an almost daily basis? The zoo? A rare sighting of a white tailed sea eagle, osprey indeed beautiful to see in person. You’ll see in Angus..
Yet in this often hitherto bypassed area there’s so many gems, wee places, castles, beaches, mountains, glens, lochs yet what ties all this and more together are it’s true stories.
For example......

Glen Esk was the birth place of the first Earl Finavon and Edzell were cherished abodes of the family so long as its power survived; and its various members were proprietors of important portions of the Mearns from a remote to a late period.

Marquis of Montrose and his soldiers whilst in hidding, being pursued ravaged certain parts of Angus. See the remnants of one building on our tour.

During the Scottish wars of independence there’s suitable reasons to believe that the ancient lords of brechin had an interest in Glenesk, since on the execution-of David de Brechin for his connection with conspiracy against The Bruce, the Bruce also buried his infant son at Restenneth Abbey, near Forfar, in Angus, why? It’s well documented.

Re lords of Glenesk brief history.
Traces of the old family “de Glenesk” are unfortunately alike those of Abbes and Adzells very rare but as such remain and found in tales of knightly, warlike race who inhabited the banks of the North Esk at least a century prior the powerful Clan Lindsay.

Glenesk.
First accounts of ‘John de Glenesch’ are founded in a trustworthy capacity of a witness to a charter to Walter de Rossy about 1260 then in around 1289 as links to letters regarding the marriage of Edward’s son Prince Henry with our own Scottish princess Margaret.

Ezell castle visited by Mary queen of scots. This was on 25th August 1562 whilst her majesty was on her well known northern expedition to quell the Huntly rebellion. Accompanied by Lords Murray, Maitland and
Lindsay( the last of whom afterwards forced Mary to resign her crown at Lochleven)

Lochlee Kirk history. ............Glenesk. The Founder was Saint Drostan in the 8th century as he, others too journeyed with Saint Columba from Ireland to spread Christianity in Scotland. St. Serf was it not he or St. Kentigern was either at Culross or Luss?

Invermark Castle, Glenesk
Tales of a Murderer taking refuge..
Invermark Castle is an implausibly tall tower house dating back to the 1300s and built to guard the southern end of the strategic pass leading from Deeside.

Glen Esk the glen of glens, the glen of the Rowan’s.

Aye there’s many fine, beautiful and haunting glens but! Did you know it’s the only glen with one road in, and out.

Aye there’s far more bypassed than many offers on tours and that’s ‘Bespoke Tours’ passion and reason we decided to create that individuality, unlike any other.

In closing, love lost, characters, gold, jacobites hiding, queens, illegal distillery? I can reveal a very rare artifact that few has laid eyes upon but!

You’ll have to be patient, and allow ourselves at Bespoke Tours to be your own, personal guide.

Yet within the Glen’s beating heart, the real, every day lives can be seen, heard and known of.
Within the incredible ‘Glenesk Folk Museum’

This is where stories are nurtured, loved, told and shared, by dedicated trustees and volunteers.

Don’t bypass but visit and receive a truly, warm, genuine local Scottish, hearty welcome.

Why! You may be fortunate to book a personal tour of the museum and the glen, with a traditional Scottish poet, author and storyteller as your ‘Bespoke Guide’

Has your curiosity been awakened?

Who has often read of words upon a page, as
age does not pass us by,
Who has heard and felt the march of time, as such in years fading of a forgotten yesterday’s embrace

Amongst us all, all I say and but offer, words live on, within the memories and lost moments of a whisper

Listen with your heart, soul, mind but above all your, your imagination and let the pages lead you into such days

For in such days as these step, step away and let the word heal your troubles, ease the mind and thought.

Immersing oneself into the story will indeed be worth stepping free from the here and present. Become the outlaw but momentarily by just taking time for you, you the person.

But remember this, time, ours, here and now, is not only for us, but for those whom we love, share life with.

Cast your thoughts into the winds of time, read a book, laugh or cry as emotions tug, as pages turn, the yearning to read but one, one more paragraph is more, more than you know.

Live for that next turn of a page, but live your life the best you can. Books, words? will remain long after we have journeyed on.
Write your own story, and be remembered as who we were.

Me? I’m just a poet and storyteller.

02/06/2024

The day is getting closer.....

Soon I’ll be able to reveal something very rare indeed.

Images, words by ‘Bespoke Tours’

Who rests here in time’s embrace, man, woman or bairn, as scattered far o’er water deep, yet humbly aneath stone, a cairn

Stories linger as once spoken, as ages past recalling, a just response, as words or prose, oft penned by poet’s upon the morn

Paths that lead, men wha bled, for name, country but ne’er applause wanting, as in memory for a tae see the road ahead time’s daunting.

Lords aye Earls o noble birth would rise up an show their mettle,
as wha an one each glen born son, in life became a story’s vessel.

Ages pass, o lad an lass, each upon life’s fabric, the land’s journey painted, yet o cause as just, an wha ye’d trust ye lived yer life undaunted.

Silent still, as here and will, await mony a weary traveller, tae tak the mile, wae tear or smile and return in time tae this place o mortal souls e’er resting.

04/02/2023

There is no doubt that Restenneth Priory near Forfar sits perfectly within the landscape. Offering a tangible link to the past as too often this location is bypassed.
I first discovered in early 2012, and since then I’ve visited many times, each offers a different view, or something new never seen before.
It offers a rich tapestry in the area and Scotland’s history with links to significant periods in time.
There’s suggestions the foundations may date back to roman times also.
The masonry at the base of the tower dates from the 1100s, but there's a strong possibility that this was where Nechtan King of the Picts built his first stone church in the 8th century. King Alexander I saw something in Restenneth, and chose to move the sacred annals of Iona here to keep them safe from encroaching Scandinavians. Robert the Bruce also picked this spot to bury his infant child John in 1327, the twin brother of King.
That’s why and yes many tours offers wider locations however by engaging with a good local and very knowledgeable guide the discerning guests will enjoy the ultimate experience.

Just, just imagine as you on your next visit to Scotland are regaled of this and other hidden gems. Yet your guide is a Scottish gentleman poet and storyteller, with many years experience.
Let this be the year you truly discover the other hidden parts of Scotland as we, patiently await to offer a genuine, warm Scottish welcome.

It surely would offer the perfect location to visit and celebrate an anniversary, birthday or even marriage proposal, especially so with a true Scottish poet creating unique words just for you. In the background a piper to play an appropriate tune, don’t imagine but experience in person.

“Dinna fash”

The true origins as also used by Bram Stoker in his novel ‘Dracula’ yet was out of context in the Whitby link, as it’s originally from the North East of Scotland area, the Doric my own mither tongue and home area.

As evidence respectfully offered here.
