Laas Geel 🇸🇴
Laas Geel is a complex of caves and rock shelters in Somaliland, a self-declared independent region of Somalia. The site is known for its well-preserved rock art, which includes intricate paintings of humans and animals dating back to the Neolithic period, estimated to be around 5,000 to 11,000 years old.
The rock art at Laas Geel is considered one of the earliest examples of art in the Horn of Africa and provides valuable insights into the lives and beliefs of the ancient people who inhabited the region. The vibrant colors and detailed depictions of animals such as cattle, dogs, and giraffes make Laas Geel a unique and important archaeological site.
Although Laas Geel is not as well-known as some other ancient rock art sites, such as those in France and Spain, it is gaining recognition for its cultural and historical significance. Efforts are being made to preserve and protect the site for future generations to appreciate and study.
