Gujarat is a state located on India's western coast. Its 1,600 km of coastline, the majority of which is on the Kathiawar peninsula, is the longest in the nation. With a total size of 196,024 sq km and a population of 60.4 million, Gujarat is the ninth-most populous state in India. Rajasthan to the northeast, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu to the south, Maharashtra to the southeast, Madhya Pradesh to the east, the Arabian Sea and Sindh, a province of Pakistan, to the west, and Madhya Pradesh to the southeast are its neighbors. Ahmedabad is Gujarat's largest city, while Gandhinagar serves as the state's capital. Gujaratis are native residents of the state, and Gujarati is the official language of Gujarat.
There are 23 Indus Valley civilization sites in the state (more than any other state). The most significant locations include Lothal, the first dry dock in history, Dholavira, the fifth-largest location, and Gola Dhoro (where 5 uncommon seals were found). One of the first seaports in the known universe is thought to have been at Lothal. In the Maurya and Gupta empires, as well as during the succession of royal Saka dynasties in the Western Satraps era, Gujarat's coastal cities—most notably Bharuch and Khambhat—served as ports and commerce hubs. Four Indian states—Bihar, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Gujarat—all forbid the selling of alcohol. The only wild population of Asiatic lions in the world can be found in Gujarat's Gir Forest National Park.
