FRIDAY BROADCAST: Happy Hijri New Year
Today was the 29th of Dhul-Hijjah (i.e. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014), and could possibly be the last day of this Hijri year of 1435. Tonight the moon should have been sought, and if it was seen then tonight would be the first night of Muharram, 1436 AH. If the moon was not seen, then tonight would be the 30th night of Dhul-Hijjah, and Saturday would be the start of the Islamic New Year.
Let us take this opportunity to look back on the previous year and make note of the goals we set for ourselves, the ones we have achieved, and the ones that are still in progress. Let us set new goals and aim to reach even higher achievements, first and foremost in our Religious affairs, and also in the worldly matters.
Let us remember the story of the migration of the Prophet, Sallallaahu ^alayhi wa sallam, and his companion Abu Bakr, and how strong their reliance upon Allaah was. It is so easy to get caught up with day-to-day difficulties, but when you remember what the Prophet went through, it will help to put things into perspective and lessen your worries about this dunya, which is going to end.
I wish all my brothers and sisters in Islam a blessed Hijri New Year!
